Position Summary |
The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus, and it is essential for candidates to be available to work on-site full-time. This role requires in-person collaboration and engagement with the team and the campus community. Candidates seeking remote work arrangements are encouraged to consider other opportunities that better align with their preferences. This position is exempt from the State of NC Human Resources Act (
EHRA).
Western Carolina University is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Junior Web Developer to join our University Marketing and Communications web team. If you have a passion for web development and enjoy working with clients to enhance their digital presence, this role is perfect for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in updating and maintaining the university's websites to ensure they are user-friendly and visually appealing.
- Collaborate with the web team to add new features and improve existing ones based on client feedback.
- Ensure websites run smoothly and securely, providing a great experience for all users.
- Quickly address and resolve any website issues to keep everything running efficiently.
- Work closely with designers, content creators, and other team members to deliver high-quality web solutions that meet client needs.
- Stay informed about the latest web development trends and technologies to keep our websites current and innovative.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this Position:
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web development languages.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal.
- Basic understanding of SEO principles and web analytics tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications |
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or other related field. Experience: 0 to 2 years of relevant experience. Other: Interested candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship or any other immigration-related assistance.

Preferred Qualifications |
In addition to the above-stated minimum qualifications, management has a preference for those candidates who have experience with responsive and mobile-first web design, knowledge of web accessibility standards (
WCAG), and familiarity with version control systems such as Git. |
