The Position
Leading a crucial role within the Campus Development Team, the Executive Director - Capital Project Delivery will steer the strategic oversight and successful execution of a multi billion dollar capital expenditure (CAPEX) program at the South San Francisco site. This position involves complex program management to deliver both functional and strategic goals while ensuring financial objectives are met. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the role requires a vision-driven, strategic approach combined with adept consultation with leadership and project governance committees. Key Responsibilities:
Drive strategic oversight for significant capital investments in alignment with the Campus vision plan. Ensure successful realization of major projects and constituent sub-projects. Provide transformative strategic leadership to a diverse team of architects, contractors, consultants, project managers, and general contractors. Cultivate a collaborative and high-performance team environment for seamless project execution and delivery, leveraging internal and external resources effectively. Oversee the entire lifecycle of large-scale construction projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals from inception through to completion. Ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality delivery of projects while meeting financial targets and strategic objectives. Guarantee compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and maintain rigorous standards in all aspects of project delivery. Strategically engage with government bodies to secure necessary permits and approvals for project advancement. Spearhead the bidding and negotiation processes, expertly managing contracts with contractors, consultants, and other critical stakeholders. Develop, manage, and strategically allocate financial resources, ensuring rigorous budgeting, forecasting, and cost control across projects. Foster financial accountability and transparency throughout the project lifecycle. Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks, employing strategic risk management and insurance minimization approaches. Establish and maintain robust communication channels to keep all stakeholders informed and aligned. Continuously evaluate and refine project delivery processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Stay abreast of industry trends, championing best practices and integrating emerging technologies into project delivery strategies. Ensure adherence to Roche directives, local building codes, fire protection regulations, procurement guidelines, and technical standards. Define and implement strategic frameworks for planning, procurement, execution, commissioning, and financial resource coordination. Foster cross-functional collaboration with global stakeholders, including colleagues in the SET network, to leverage lessons learned and best practices. Integrate innovative and sustainable solutions into projects, advocating for advanced processes, technologies, and methodologies within Genentech and Roche.
Requirements: Education and Expertise:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering (Civil, Structural, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical), Quality Surveying or Construction Management. 15+ years of extensive experience in managing large-scale construction projects, with profound expertise in Project Management in California. Proven track record in delivering large ($1b+), complex projects within large existing campus environments.
Skills and Competencies:
Exceptional leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal communication (written/verbal) skills. Strong business and technical acumen with advanced project management tools and methodologies expertise. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Highly dependable, detail-oriented, and proficient in coordination tasks with the ability to work independently as a self-starter. Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding and mentoring large, interdisciplinary project teams. A visionary leader with the ability to drive innovation in capital project delivery and embrace emerging trends. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
