Job Summary

TheDirector, Commercial and Business Solutionsat CenterPoint Energy is a leadership role within the Utility Strategy group, responsible for driving enterprise-wide initiatives that impact CenterPoint's ability to meet the electric needs of its customers. The Utility Strategy group operates at the intersection of operations, regulatory, and several support functions, driving organic growth strategy across CenterPoint's electric and gas service territories. This role is critical to supporting CenterPoint's executive leadership team.

Essential Functions




  • StrategicMarket Analysis: Lead the evaluation of market conditions, revenue potential, customer feedback, and regulatory landscapes to identify and capitalize on new opportunities.


  • Commercial Strategy: Create and implement strategies to enhance commercial load enablement and drive growth in electric and gas service territories.
  • Commercial Strategy: Analyze and evaluate options to enable customer decision-making for large electric loads and gas pipeline customers. Identify factors that will lead to project success in CenterPoint service geographies
  • Executive Project Management: Oversee cross-functional teams to execute product offerings and proposals, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Commercial Strategy: Create and implement strategies to enhance commercial load enablement and drive growth in electric and gas service territorires.
  • Strategic Development: Formulate and lead the development of go-to-market strategies and customer-facing documents. Provide strategic input into the business plan.
  • Advanced Support and Analysis: Deliver comprehensive analysis (business analytics, market fundamentals, etc.) for presentations to upper management and customer-facing teams. Offer market intelligence on emerging trends, technologies, peer actions, and regulatory constructs.
  • Research and Strategic Recommendations: Conduct ongoing research on industry trends and market fundamentals both locally and globally. Develop actionable recommendations and associated business cases for company leadership.
  • Industry Engagement: Represent CenterPoint Energy at industry meetings and conferences to stay current with industry fundamentals, practices, and trends.
  • Leadership and Recruitment: Participate in recruiting activities to maintain a high-quality utility strategy organization. Mentor and develop team members to foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects and strategies comply with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, particularly the customer organization
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential project and market risks.
  • Strategic Vision and Leadership: Develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for the Commercial Solutions function, aligning with CenterPoint Energy's overall goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster collaboration across different departments to ensure cohesive strategy implementation and operational efficiency




Education Description




  • Requires a bachelor'sdegree from an accredited college or university.An MBA is highly valued.





Experience




  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a related field, with a strong commercial background and deep understanding of drivers behind utility-scale power generation or other large industrial projects.



  • Proventrack record of successfully identifying financially viable projects and managing commercial agreements.


  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and continuously improve strategies and internal processes. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with the power market, gas economics, and customer engagement in the context of new technologies and new energies. Understanding of the utility sector.
