Job Overview

This role will be responsible for leading, supervising, planning, and directing activities concerned with the Quality Assurance of industrial processes, materials, and products for the HUS Segment of Hubbell. Major responsibilities will include: Manages the Quality Management System (QMS) for multiple HUS manufacturing facilities to meet the requirements of the HUS Quality Manual and ISO 9001. Lead the Quality Management Council as well as schedule, manage and participate in external and internal Quality audits. Support HUS Operations activities representing the Quality Assurance business aspect.

A Day In The Life

Technical Knowledge



  • Manage ISO 9001:2015 Registered QMS.
  • Manage direct interface with external ISO registrar for both sustainment and expansion of the consolidated registrations addressing all technical matters.
  • Identify and create capex justifications for equipment critical to department function.
  • Cross trained to fill in for all other HUS Quality dept members as needed. This means understanding what each department member deals with on a day-to-day basis and being able to back fill those positions.
  • Support QA team members with the ability to write work instructions as needed for new equipment or oversee that work instructions are created by other department members.
  • Ensure and support the QA team to collect manufacturing data and provide analysis designed to improve product and system quality as well as to publish monthly reports to upper management.
  • Ensure any shifts to distribute existing QA activities to other organizations are de-risked, documented and accepted by Organization's Operational & Quality Leadership.


Department Management



  • Directly manage ~ 3-5 Quality Managers Responsible for counseling, employee development and providing input on annual performance appraisals
  • Indirectly manage up to 30 Quality Managers (matrix organization) to ensure the health of the QMS.
  • Advocate for group members as needed within HUS, help demonstrate their capabilities to management to give advancement opportunities as appropriate.
  • Lead and manage internal and external audits with the Quality Management Council members
  • Bring new measurement technology into the department.
  • Oversee ongoing training of all department employees.
  • Ensure that each site's calibration system is being well managed.
  • Ensure department members are sufficiently cross trained.
  • Participate in 5S audits during site visits
  • Ensure each site QA leader is managing and responding to customer complaints.
  • Ensure all key aspects of the HUS Quality Management System are fulfilled effectively and timely.
  • QMS-Reviews
  • QM Council Periodic meetings (Face to Face & Virtual)


Manufacturing Site Support



  • Ensure all ISO related internal audits are completed effectively
  • Support QA team to Open/close Quality Concerns
  • Lead Management Review meeting as needed
  • Ensure QA team maintains the QMS system and Quality Manual
  • Ensure QA team updates all work instructions and update in ERP system as needed
  • Ensure QA site leader is providing a monthly scrap/repair rates reports to the management team
  • Ensure QA team provides Quality approval for all ECOs and Deviations related to Factory products
  • Ensure vendor visits for qualification and capability assessment of Suppliers are carried out & that remote qualification activities to effectively maintain the vendor base.
  • Lead efforts to align HUS QA organizations to common processes and platforms.
  • Support ISO Expansion efforts across HUS organizations by:
  • Providing Technical Input/Direction.
  • Review of existing process and system.
  • Sharing existing processes/platforms to drive commonalities.
  • Leading pre-assessments/audits of the emerging QMS Pre-Registrar assessments.
  • Ensuring all NCRs are properly addressed prior to submission to the Registrar.


Supervisory Responsibilities



  • Directly supervises up to ~15 employees in the quality assurance department & and Indirectly provides leadership & Direction to ~ 30 HUS Quality Mangers.

Education and Skills Required



  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimal 5yrs related experience.
  • Expert in ISO 9001:2015.
  • Considered a plus:
  • ISO 14001 & 45001 a plus
  • Certified Quality Manager
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Proficiency in Problem Resolution


Language Skills



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.


Mathematical Skills



  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability



  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills



  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, Visio and PowerPoint, working within an ERP system.


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to travel on business-related trips 50% (domestic and international); ability to move to various locations within the Company; ability to communicate; ability to work on a personal computer or other related equipment as required.
