Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Photographer, under the direct supervision of an Ophthalmologist, assists in direct and indirect patient care. The Ophthalmic Photographer performs a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the operation of specialized equipment to assist in the examination and diagnosis of eye diseases.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports Ophthalmologist by utilizing various diagnostic equipment including but not limited to: Heidelberg, Optos California and Silverstone, Topcon Fundus Camera, Clarus, Absolu B-Scan, and Haag-Streit Slit Lamp Camera.
  • Imaging requirements include but are not limited to: Digital Fluorescein/ICG Angiography, Color Fundus Photography, Optical Coherence Tomography, Retinal Thickness Analysis, Anterior Segment Slit-Lamp Biomicroscopy, External and O.R. Photography.
  • Maintains equipment databases, calibrates machines as needed, and notifies imaging manager of any clinical engineering needs.
  • Assists principal photographer in complex assignments requiring advanced photography and lighting techniques (such as eye surgery photography).
  • Takes still external photographs of patients with eyelid disorders, eye motility problems, and craniofacial abnormalities and documents injuries to the face and eye because of trauma.
  • Performs imaging review for research cases and uploads to applicable sites as requested by the Principal Investigator, Physician, or research parameters.
  • Using a fundus camera, takes pictures of a broad spectrum of retinal diseases, identifying hereditary, congenital, or acquired findings.
  • Performs and understands basic knowledge of ultrasound/echography screenings.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Two years (24 months) of experience performing basic Optometry or Ophthalmic duties.
  2. One year (12 months) of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
  3. Current valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
