Rumpke is looking for an energetic and proactive public relations professional to join its corporate communications team. The ideal candidate for this full-time position is a go-getter who can identify a newsworthy story and write effectively. The role demands a professional who enjoys a fast-paced working environment.

This role will assist the Communications Manager with identifying, planning, and executing communications strategies and tactics for Rumpke. They will also work with the communications team to assist with identifying and responding to internal and external communication needs.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Communicate and enforce appropriate Rumpke branding standards.
  • Writing internal communications, including company newsletter articles and employee announcements.
  • Working with internal departments to select and create appropriate communication mediums for target internal audiences.
  • Collaborating with sales to meet communications needs associated with municipal and commercial accounts. This may involve researching, identifying, and executing specific public relations efforts for each client.
  • Assisting with media buys and writing copy for advertisements.
  • Coordinating direct mail campaigns with assistance from Rumpke's Corporate Design team.
  • Cultivating relationships with local media.
  • Writing and editing press releases, fact sheets, and other media materials.
  • Coordinating media pitches, selecting appropriate spokespeople, and participating in media interviews (both in positive and crisis situations).
  • Developing and implementing communications and public awareness campaigns to further promote the Rumpke brand to target audiences within Rumpke.
  • Organizing, planning, and attending special events.
  • Developing sales materials and educational resources.
  • Conducting and assisting with facility tours.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Photography and video editing skills are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with Associated Press (AP) style guidelines.
  • Ability to speak in front of large and small groups.
  • Dependable team-player with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • 24-7 response to crisis communications needs.
  • Willing to follow all department and company rules, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to suggest and implement ideas or programs to increase efficiency and/or assure effective communications to target audiences.



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • 3-5 years of Public Relations or Communication experience.



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Ability to travel between offices, as required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours: overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
