THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is looking to hire an Equipment Operator B for Pymatuning State Park. This role is essential for the operation and upkeep of the park's facilities, ensuring they remain in excellent condition. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position involves skilled labor in the operation of various equipment as well as construction, groundskeeping, and maintenance tasks. The individual is tasked with overseeing the upkeep of the park's roadways and parking facilities, while also contributing to landscape maintenance, utility line upkeep, and small-scale construction projects that necessitate both physical labor and adept handling of larger vehicles and machinery. The employee may work independently or take on a leadership role, guiding a small team of semi-skilled laborers or general laborers in completing designated assignments. A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a requirement for this role.

In addition to equipment operation, the employee engages in manual labor when necessary. Responsibilities include applying stone to gravel roads and parking areas, patching and repairing asphalt surfaces, cleaning and maintaining culverts, trimming vegetation along rights-of-way, mowing roadside areas, snow plowing, and applying anti-skid materials. The role also encompasses installing signage along roadways, excavating trenches for water, sewer, and drainage line installations or repairs, and preparing foundations for small construction projects. The employee is responsible for loading and transporting earth, stone, sand, stumps, and debris, as well as clearing land and preparing surfaces for landscaping. Tasks also involve plowing, disking, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, and mulching turf areas, trails, and wildlife plots.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Condition or Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial driver's license (CDL).
