Overview

Responsible for obtaining and tracking authorization for all patients for whom their insurance requires pre[1]authorization, and ensuring the agency has the authorization required to bill for services provided.



Responsibilities

    Answer telephones and provide excellent customer service to our professional staff and insurance representatives
  • Run and utilize computer reports regularly
  • Observe confidentiality and safeguard all patient related information
  • Provide accurate, complete updates to Agency management on status of authorizations for all patients requiring treatment authorization
  • Ensures authorization is obtained and tracked for all patients whose insurance requires pre-authorization
  • Is responsible for seeing that objectives are implemented, follows, and promotes agency policies and procedures
  • Ensure all authorization requests are documented clearly
  • Participate in the orientation and education of other employees as relates to Authorization department
  • Observes confidentiality and safeguard all patient related information
  • Notifies Supervisor of problems in a timely manner and works to help provide solutions
  • Completes ongoing education requirements and demonstrates ongoing competency in required areas
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Health Care billing and/or authorization practices
  • General knowledge of the framework, organization, and function of home care
  • Sound knowledge of health care operations and third-party reimbursement
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer) with the ability to learn industry specific software applications
  • Solid organizational skills, thoroughness, and a keen attention to detail with the ability to multi-task while prioritizing effectively
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
