Make a Difference Where It Matters Most. At University Health, we serve as a vital lifeline for our community-delivering high-quality care with a deep commitment to those most in need. We're looking for a strategic, driven, and politically savvy Director of Advocacy and Policy to help elevate our voice and influence in local and state health care policy. About the Role As the Director of Advocacy and Policy, you'll work closely with our Chief Health Policy & Governmental Relations Officer to shape our legislative and regulatory strategies. This role is key to advancing our mission through smart, data-informed advocacy-particularly around Medicaid and care for the uninsured. You'll build and sustain high-level relationships with elected officials, governmental staff, and community partners, positioning University Health as a thought leader in publicly funded healthcare. What You'll Do
  • Track and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory trends; create briefings, summaries, and strategic guidance for leadership.
  • Co-lead policy efforts with our Chief Health Policy Officer to advance Medicaid and other key healthcare initiatives.
  • Build coalitions with policy makers, stakeholders, and community leaders to further organizational goals.
  • Craft and communicate policy positions and key messaging both internally and externally.
  • Serve as liaison with the City of Kansas City, Missouri on indigent care contracts and public health partnerships.
  • Engage in the community by attending civic events, board meetings, and health commissions as a representative of University Health.
  • Coach internal stakeholders on how to effectively engage in the policy arena, including testifying before governmental bodies.
  • Support grant development and letters of support for both internal and external health initiatives.
  • Champion diversity, quality, and safety in all aspects of work
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience engaging with state and local elected officials and government agencies.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and policy processes.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to synthesize and communicate complex policy information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Preferred:
  • Background in healthcare, particularly in Medicaid or care for the uninsured.
  • High energy and self-motivated with strong judgment and project management skills.
  • Experience fostering partnerships and coalitions in diverse settings.
Why Join Us? University Health is more than a hospital-we're a mission-driven health system delivering compassionate care and working to improve lives across our region. Here, you'll have a front-row seat to health care innovation and advocacy in action. You'll also have the chance to lead meaningful change that directly impacts the health and well-being of our community.
