This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this class within the organization is to maintain the overall cleanliness of the facility and surrounding grounds and set-up for activities and meetings.
The Custodian at the Bradley Museum is a key member of the City of Murfreesboro's Parks & Recreation team, responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized museum environment. This position ensures that all museum spaces-including galleries, restrooms, event areas, offices, and public spaces-are clean, orderly, and ready for daily operations or special events. Duties include routine custodial work, light maintenance, facility oversight, and guest support. This role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and flexibility to support museum needs on weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Functions:
- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Opens and closes building; prepares building for day activity; ensures building is secure at closing.
- Maintains and cleans restrooms, drinking fountains and kitchen in a sanitary manner
- Removes litter and waste paper from inside the building and on the surrounding grounds; cares for and waters plants.
- Replaces soap and paper products in dispensers, sweeps, mops, and waxes floors and stairwells on a routine basis; vacuums and cleans carpets.
- Cleans windows; changes light bulbs and air filters as needed.
- Sets up and takes down for meetings and carries equipment, tables, chairs and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Dollies are available to help with moving equipment and furniture.
- Dusts; polishes furniture; cleans window ledges, banisters, ceilings, radiators, and bleachers.
- Performs minor repairs to the facility and equipment as required and ensures the facility is safe for patrons and employees.
- Uses City-owned vehicles to run errands and deliveries.
- Uses a ladder and hand tools including, but not limited to, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, heavy equipment, power tools, pliers, paint brushes, etc.
- Monitor building and report any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Some positions may require driving.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Guest Service and Support
- Greets and assists museum visitors in a courteous and professional manner. * Provides information about the museum's layout, programming, or amenities.
- Ensures the museum environment remains welcoming and safe for all guests.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Three (3) months of janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of facility operations, cleaning equipment, and safety procedures.
- Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid driver's license is required.
- CPR/AED certification preferred or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.
