Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
The employee will be a member of Dr. Hye Won Kang's research group, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with other team members, and mentoring students. The employee will also contribute to additional proposal efforts, thereby strengthening North Carolina A&T State University's ability to attract external funding. The employee's principal research responsibilities will be on performing experiments in current Dr. Kang's research related to obesity and diabetes in cells, mice models, and human subjects using molecular biological and nutritional biochemical skills. The employee will confer with Dr. Hye Won Kang on overall research direction and strategy but will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to original knowledge and advances the University's reputation in research. The employee will publish research results, in collaboration with Dr. Hye Won Kang, in recognized journals. The employee will share student mentoring with Dr. Hye Won Kang and will participate in other professional activities as assigned. |

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (
CAES) has a rich history of innovation and application of cutting-edge technology. From our pioneering Laboratory Animal Science and Landscape Architecture programs to our award-winning Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research programs, our faculty and staff serve today's needs while keeping an eye on the future. With programs and expertise in such areas as biotechnology, agricultural and biosystems engineering, natural resources management, waste management, and food microbiology, the A&T College of Agriculture grows concurrently with the demand for qualified graduates. Our four academic departments are the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education; the Department of Animal Sciences; the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. Within these departments, students will find a myriad of opportunities for classroom learning, research and field work.
Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (
AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations (non-licensure), child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (nutrition and pre-medicine in nutrition), and food and nutritional sciences (food science). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, an online Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), an online Advanced Certificate in family and consumer sciences and an online certificate in family financial planning. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles, child development, and family issues |
Minimum Requirements |
Ph.D. awarded within the last five years in nutritional sciences, molecular biology or biochemistry specializing in nutrient and human metabolic diseases.

1. Ph.D. awarded within the last five years in nutritional sciences, molecular biology or biochemistry specializing in nutrient and human metabolic diseases.
2. A strong functional foods and molecular nutrition background with evidence of molecular biological skills (minimum requirement:
RNA/
DNA extraction, real-time
PCR, western blot) related to nutrient metabolism-related research.
3. A strong experience working with mice and mammalian cell culture in obesity area and lipid metabolism.
4. Analytical research experiences using
HPLC, MS or microbiome study (in mice or human) or human clinical studies additionally preferred, but not required
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
6. Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members as a team
7. Capacity to write manuscripts
8. A proven record of publications in lipid metabolism related to obesity or diabetes or other chronic diseases
9. No more than 5 years of postdoctoral experience |
