Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to meet the department's responsibility of providing parking enforcement and traffic control by monitoring UCDH parking areas for valid permits, time zone compliance, etc., and by issuing citations where appropriate. The Senior Parking Representative also facilitates safe passage and parking for all vehicles operating on the UCDH grounds by providing and maintaining safe equipment. Parking equipment, including Parking Structures at UCDH is inspected and maintained by the department, the repair and general maintenance of which is performed by this position. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent related experience
  • Experience in security, emergency response, or related fields.
  • Experience in enforcing regulations or laws in a specific sector.
  • Experience involving public contact and independent decisions.
  • Ability to read, Interpretive skills to read, apply and utilize appropriately.
  • Reading skills to understand and apply policies and procedures and other communication, printed and handwritten in English* Writing skills to legibly and clearly convey information in English.
  • Skills in oral communication sufficient to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff and to respond to questions without confusion or rambling.
  • Ability to accept and follow written and oral instructions from a variety of individuals and the capacity for long term memory of such instructions.
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff of patients, staff, faculty, and the public. Patience to communicate with individuals who have limited English speaking skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, and empathy with others (e.g., grieving, angry, anxious, or upset patients, family and visitors, etc.)
  • Ability to listen attentively to problems or complaints and to refer problems to the appropriate source.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for computing fees and full cashiering responsibilities.
  • Ability to use personal computer and generate reports.
  • Ability to process vehicles out of attended lots with speed and accuracy.
  • General ability and skills in machine operations, mechanical devices, electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service parking control equipment.
  • Ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of California Vehicle Code 21113a and UCD Traffic and Parking code.
  • Thorough knowledge of all hospital streets and parking areas and the various parking instructions and exceptions as they apply to staff, patients and visitors.
  • Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service parking control equipment.
  • Skill to read and interpret mechanical drafting plans, blue prints, electrical schematics, and technical instruction manuals.

Department Overview

The Parking Services Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and enforcement of all University Medical Center parking. The unit sells permits (either by cash or through payroll deduction), staffs kiosk-operated parking lots, and oversees metered lots. The issuance and sale of Parking Permits are strictly controlled by the department. Enforcement of all parking areas is performed by uniformed staff in accordance with California Vehicle Code 21113a; citations issued by agreement with the Sacramento Municipal Court.

Work Environment
