Job Summary:

Directs and provides leadership in the planning, engineering, and safe and reliable operation of CenterPoint Energy's natural gas storage, peak shaving, and hydrogen facilities. Provides long term strategic planning initiatives that take into account gas supply planning, capital expenditures, carbon reduction initiatives, and O&M efficiencies. Directs a team of managers and technical experts in the area of storage and peak shaving who are not only technically competent but maintain productive relationships with key internal stakeholders, such as Engineering, Operations, and Regulatory Relations, and external stakeholders, such as local, state, and federal regulatory authorities as necessary.

Essential Functions:



  • Direct the operation and maintenance of the company's gas storage, compressors, peak shaving and hydrogen facilities and programs to ensure their safe and reliable operation.
  • Direct long term strategic planning of storage and peak shaving facilities and assets; prepare business cases and recommendations to executive management for plans and projects that provide long term value to the company and its customers.

  • Direct the design, engineering, and construction of new storage and peak shaving facilities or upgrades to existing facilities.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of equipment specifications to ensure integrity in the construction, operations and maintenance of the storage and peak shaving systems.
  • Manage CenterPoint Energy's relationship with storage and peak shaving facility regulators including: PHMSA, State regulators and authorities, local fire, police, community officials and adjacent neighbors to the facilities.
  • Coordinate the department's capital and operations budgets and direct staff in manging to meet the established budgets.
  • Ensure the completion of department specific specialized training programs and department specific operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Maintain a highly competent staff by developing and retaining employees through appropriate feedback and coaching to maximize performance and ensure overall responsiveness.
  • Understand and use the specific specialized codes and standards governing the storage, peak shaving and hydrogen facilities.
  • Creates and fosters an environment focused on safety, driving efficiency in processes, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement


Education:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science or other related field from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineering license preferred



Experience:



  • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years technical experience in natural gas engineering and operations or industrial process plant experience. Requires five (5) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Requires direct experience working with a wide variety of codes and standards.
  • Requires demonstrated practical experience working with electrical and mechanical process equipment.
  • Propane-air plant, LNG or underground storage experience preferred.

Compensation: $163,332.80 to $244,999.20 Annually

CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum starting compensation range at the time of posting for the opportunity. This annual compensation range is specific to Minnesota and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
