Job Summary:

To install, repair, maintain, and adjust instruments measuring commercial and industrial customer gas usage, gas pressure & temperature measuring devices, flow devices, devices determining chemical composition, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and devices providing distribution system pressure and flow data to SCADA.

Essential Functions:



  • Installs, repairs, maintains, and adjusts measuring instruments and devices to insure accuracy of variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, volume, and chemical composition;
  • Inspects, tests, and troubleshoots equipment using appropriate testing equipment to replace or repair defective parts, component assemblies or units;
  • Performs scheduled maintenance inspections as assigned and makes calibration adjustments to insure equipment functions within specifications;
  • Completes appropriate paperwork and orders on Mobile Data to ensure accurate billing, maintenance, and meter records;
  • Orders equipment and replacement parts in a timely manner to maintain inventory and eliminate system downtime;
  • Performs other related tasks as appropriate or assigned to contribute to the completion of department responsibilities; and,
  • Develops and conducts field and classroom training programs to train other classifications in the installation, repair, and maintenance of metering instrumentation.




Basic Qualifications:

Education:



  • Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling.


Experience:



  • Six months experience in laying out, installing, altering, and repairing low voltage circuits within the Instrumentation Group after obtaining a State of Minnesota Power Limited Technician License (Low Voltage Certification) and passing the assessment for Advanced Instrument Technician.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Able to work inside a vehicle and or outside for most of the workday;
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time;
  • Able to view a personal computer or laptop screen for extended periods of time;
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted; and,
  • Must be able to work long hours to support the regulation department on Gas Flow Interruption Plans.


Working Conditions:



  • Able to meet all the physical demands of this position, including lifting, walking up to 8 hours, bending and climbing;
  • Able to maneuver up to 90 lb;
  • Able to work outside in extreme hot or cold weather conditions;
  • Able or willing to learn to operate a personal computer;
  • Able to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines;
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions; and,
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.

Compensation Rate: 48.86 Hourly

CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the starting fixed pay rate at the time of posting for the opportunity. This hourly compensation is specific to Minnesota and the pay rate negotiated in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
