JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State's Office of Physical Plant is searching for a full time Maintenance Mechanic, Utilities (Electrical) to join their team. Duties include:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs in electrical vaults, manholes, and assigned areas on transformers, motors, special automatic controls, switchgear, emergency lighting, motor generators, motor starters, breakers, etc.
  • Inspect, clean, lubricate, and perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, valves, motors, dampers, actuators, air compressors, air stations, diesel engines, louvers, various pneumatic and electrical controls, filters, relief valves, tanks, etc.
  • Observe equipment under operating conditions and make necessary adjustments
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on a wide variety of powerhouse equipment such as switchboards, transformers, generators, and pumps; perform periodic inspection on various components of electrical equipment
  • Assist with electrical installation, maintenance, and repairs to various types of equipment, machinery, power generation devices, and Utility Services lines
  • Test and maintain emergency lighting systems on an assigned schedule; lubricate and adjust emergency motor generators and portable units
  • Operate generators to conduct testing and reduce energy consumption during peak usage times
  • Maintain logs and records as required
  • Operate mobile work tower to maintain street and flood lighting systems; relamp on schedule, or as necessary
  • Plan and layout work using schematics and other drawings; accomplish tasks with minimal delay to operations
  • Safeguard utility services and facilities; detect unusual conditions or defective materials and report to supervisor
  • Maintain the cleanliness and integrity of all electrical locations; ensure covers are in place and secure
  • Operate University vehicles as required

Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) required. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.

Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off:Saturday, Sunday

A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS. NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER PA CODE 231.85.
