Job Description
The starting rate of pay for this position is expected to be $27; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience between $27and $29. Job Overview: The Technical Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise to ensure optimal machine production and efficiencies. Will be seen as the lead process operator of a sub-section or small section in a department of operations. This position will support all production operations to optimize output and minimize waste while maintaining excellent quality and safety standards. Additionally, will be involved in solving process related issues and problems on a day-to-day basis. Job Dimensions:
- Part of AF Mundelein Production Team
- Hourly non-exempt, no direct reports.
- Schedule: Rotating 12 hour shift - 6:00am-6:00pm.Must be available on alternating weekends and some holidays.
- Assist in the manufacture of quality products (per customer standards) as determined by the production schedule and/or supervisor.
- Under the direction of the shift supervisor, incumbent will gain understanding of the leadership and technical knowledge required in the manufacturing process and continuously improve skills and productivity through teamwork. Additionally, will collaborate and interface with Senior Process Specialists, Process Engineers, and Product development to assist in process improvement, assess current operations and plan for future improvements that optimize plant efficiencies
Principal Accountabilities:
- Under the direction of the supervisor, incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the department is complying with policies and procedures and all safety requirements including the Safety Guiding Principles
- Assure associate growth by developing team members, provide cross training, and assist in the OJT and skill development of new employees in your assigned area
- Expectation is that you will provide strong technical skills coupled with the ability to inspire and motivate team members and keep the morale strong by supporting and motivating others to do their best.
- Drive 6S, TPM and Tier Board programs activities .
- Incumbent must drive for results, provide continuous improvement, and associate engagement.
- Must have strong process management skills, the ability to effectively delegate routine tasks and get things done through others
- Must be flexible and open to changes in the work environment, and deal with frequent changes or unexpected events
- Able to creatively solve problems and be relentless when it comes to finding solutions to complex problems to improve plant efficiencies and ensure efficient workflow
- Must treat people with respect, work with integrity, ethically uphold organizational values, and establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to gain trust and respect.
- Assists team members as needed, with technical issues as they pertain to a specific product
- Interact with all plant departments on different levels to address process problems (Quality, Maintenance, Planning, Customer Service, Finance
- Gives and welcomes feedback, committed to the success of team and supports the efforts of team members to succeed.
- May also perform the work done by subordinates on a temporary basis
- Support/Lead process improvement activities
- Assist in identifying best practices and standard methods to use on all crews
- Support production lines experiencing technical or quality problems and analyze opportunities for improvement
- Following up on corrective actions and continuous improvement activities
- Responsible for crew member development and OJT
- Anticipates problems in product and notifies appropriate team members for input and resolution.
Qualifications/Requirements Knowledge & Experience:
- Three or more years of production experience in Blown Film Extrusion
- Assure 5S, and standardized work compliance and development
- Uphold Amcor's commitment to safety, take care of self and co-workers and follow safety procedures and prevent injuries
- Demonstrated ability to work with electronic systems including: AS400, Lotus Notes, etc.
- Strong decision making aptitude, organizational skills, able to use discretion, establish priorities, attention to detail, and exceptional time management skills
- Mechanical aptitude preferred
- Leadership knowledge and experience
- Pouch/Bag making and film handling fundamentals, trouble shooting and quality knowledge is desirable
- Read dimensional graphic templates in both metric/standard and apply to finished product
- Expert level experience with converting bag and pouch
Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED, Associates Degree and/or industrial certification preferred
Skills/Abilities/Behaviors:
- Good critical judgment and initiative.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Willing to shift scheduled hours to interact with both day and night
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and excel with minimum supervision
Physical Demands
- Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs
- Standing up to 12 hours per day on a rotating day or evening shift, up to 5 days per week
- Occasional twisting, turning, or bending to move items up to 40 lbs
- Alert state of mind to avoid safety hazard
- Required to verbally communicate, hear, smell, stand, sit, walk, climb stairs and ladders, balance, bend and stoop.
- Vision requirements of the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus to perform all functions safely.
- Exposed to typical plant and outside environment with periodic exposure to inclement weather, noise, oil, grease, and chemical odors to some extent
Work Environment Job is performed near moving mechanical parts and occasionally in high, precarious places. This position requires the use of eye protection, hair net, and hearing protection in designated areas. When handling a sharp object or tool a cut glove must be worn per safety requirements.
