About the Job

Position Overview
The MN Landscape Arboretum is searching for supplemental Cashiers for the Gift & Garden Store and Apple House operations. These positions are supplemental in nature holding variable hours and schedules with the possibility of work Mondays through Sundays mornings and evenings throughout the year. All work hours are completed onsite at the MN Landscape Arboretum's Gift & Garden Store or Apple House located in Chaska, MN and Victoria, MN.
These positions require superior customer service, attention to detail, and an ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Cashiers are expected to provide customer service assistance to guests, process sales including handling cash and credit/debit transactions accurately, provide change as needed, and issue receipts. These positions assist customers with inquiries and provide information about products. Cashiers will also assist with receiving and pricing inventory, organizing new stock and ensuring shelves are restocked and displays are neat.

Responsibilities:
90% Cashiering & Inventory Control
* Process transactions on POS system including running credit card transactions, issue receipts, handle and process cash transactions including making change
* Maintain tidiness throughout the store to include some light housekeeping duties
* Assist with product marking, organizing new stock, and ensuring shelves are restocked and displays are neat
* Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards customers, co-workers and management
* Complete opening & closing duties as assigned including utilizing computer software to reconcile daily sales records
* Provide excellent customer service
* Greet and interact with colleagues and customers in a courteous, respectful, and friendly manner both in person and on the phone
* Watch items being brought in and out of the store
* Answer customer questions regarding products

Other duties 10%
* Assist in training other employees as needed
* Expediently communicate any challenges, guest complaints or requests to supervisor
* Assist with miscellaneous tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualification:
* High school diploma/GED and two years experience. Training/education may substitute for some of the required experience.
* Ability to interact with guests and co-workers in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
* Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
* Ability to stand for extended periods
* Ability to lift 20 pounds
* Ability to follow an established safety protocol

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in cashiering, customer service, or sales

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.90; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
