Position Summary Responsible for providing support to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons by fulfilling circulation desk functions. Assists students, faculty and community patrons with software and hardware support in the commons, classrooms, and labs. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to provide first-level Learning Commons service support for students, bridging their classroom learning by assisting with the location of learning materials, resources, and equipment. Able to respond to requests for general information with a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and accuracy. Able to effectively provide appropriate referrals to other service areas. Able to performs related service functions that support department operations. Understands the role this position plays within the College's mission and deliver high quality service in the support of student success. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College community. Able to prepare periodic reports, as necessary or requested. Strong commitment to providing world-class customer service. Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities and the ability to prioritize work. Ability to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
Key Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist faculty, staff and students with computer and/or software-related issues. Act as a resource for faculty; serves as liaison to faculty and academic departments. May create instructional materials for academic technology usage by faculty, staff and students in conjunction with Dallas College related departments. Plan and conduct individual and/or small group tutoring sessions and/or academic student-oriented workshops. Troubleshoot and correct basic hardware and software problems in the open lab and classrooms and notify supervisor of unresolved technical issues. Open and lock classrooms and ensure that computers are working properly. Maintain adequate teaching supplies in classrooms. Demonstrate various types of media and technology equipment, applications, and other materials or delivery systems used in an academic program. Assist with installation/re-installation of computer hardware and software for the open lab and classrooms. Assist in the creation of pamphlets, brochures, and fliers. Provide customer service for students, faculty, and community patrons by assisting with software support and training, within classroom spaces or labs. Maintain general clerical activity records and compiles basic unit reports and data collection. Serve as liaison between academic departments and campus computing services. Provide orientation and training for part-time staff. Functional supervision to part-time employees and student assistants. Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in a related academic discipline. A minimum of three (3) years customer service experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience. Demonstrated training experience. Demonstrated customer service skills. Standard level keyboarding, grammar, math, MS Office (2016 or above). Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience working in a collaborative environment.. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities and the ability to prioritize work. Demonstrated ability to speak and present effectively in front of groups.
Preferred:
Experience working in an academic setting. Demonstrated understanding of Macintosh computers and software. Familiarity with Banner or other college level organizational software. Advanced level MS Office 2007 or higher applications. Proficiency in database applications. Experience working within a "learning commons" environment that enables student success by closely partnering with faculty and across student learning services such as library, tutoring, testing, computing, and media. Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
