Manager - Training (Food & Nutrition)

Responsible for development, implementation and supervision of Food and Nutrition Services training modules, training needs, and professional development. Works with district leadership, staff, internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain applicable training for all FNS staff. Overseas training database for improvement, inclusion recommendations, and updates. Supervises staff to ensure that training programs, modules, and professional development comply with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.


Essential Functions



  • Manages the creation and implementation of food services training for district office and school-based staff.
  • Designs training modules that delivers hands-on and virtual training in creative and innovative ways.
  • Overseas the logistical planning for all training and professional development activities.
  • Manages training corrective action plans based on observations, hands-on reviews, supervisor, or leadership recommendations.
  • Incorporates various learning modalities and blended learning approaches in training approaches i.e. e-learning training, virtual training, in-person training, simulations, workshops, etc.
  • Develop engaging, interactive, trainee friendly presentations, videos, PowerPoints, Webinars, etc.
  • Analyzes and develops training reports and performance metrics directly impacted by training modules and for presentation to FNS Leadership.
  • Coordinates with Human Capital's Talent and Organization Development team to develop, create, organize, and deliver training.
  • Manages mandated training based on federal, state, local and city regulations.
  • Overseas implementation of MSDE training and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates training, scheduling, compliance reviews and checks with training specialists.
  • Utilizes FNS specialists to create and implement training that addresses diverse learning styles.
  • Research current training trends, requirements, and news to stay abreast to nationwide training needs, data, and implementation recommendations.
  • Builds centralized training decks that captures all training delivered for future access.
  • Implements utilization of training survey data, debriefing sessions, focus groups and meetings to ensure training modules, delivery, and logistics meets standards and incorporates recommendations.
  • Manages SOP updates. Develops SOP review and execution process. Recommends new SOPs, new policies, and procedures. Develop plan of delivery, implementation, and review.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in City Schools' and FNS policies, procedures, negotiated agreements, business function data, and performance data to incorporate in staff updates and training.
  • Develop strategic communication strategies to ensure training materials, pertinent information, and updates are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Food Services Management, Culinary Arts, Institutional Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Five years related supervisory/administrative/leadership experience.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training to diverse workforce.
  • Experience in managing professional and support staff and in preparing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, policies, practices and methods of food service operation.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations regarding food services nutritional standards, dietary guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of facility designs, food and equipment specification, warehouse and central production facility operation, profit and loss analysis and procurement procedures.
  • Knowledge of the preparation and administration of budgets and reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to make effective presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding.
  • Ability to coordinate and ensure effective oversight of the work of employees in multiple locations.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook or comparable software.

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($90,850 - $119,435).
