Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

• Program Design and Management. Design and oversee the technology transfer and commercialization activities for UCAR. Manage internal stakeholders and commercialization partnerships with private sector parties. Direct all commercialization activities related to UCAR innovations, including identification, evaluation, protection, marketing, and licensing.

• Internal Engagement and Training. Develop a process for invention disclosures, assessment, patent filing and prosecution, and market analysis. Develop and implement strategies for growing the UCAR portfolio of translatable innovations and advance them along the innovation pipeline. Build relationships across UCAR to understand the research being conducted, raise awareness of technology commercialization and intellectual property protection process and initiatives. Develop and implement a strategy for training and education of employees on technology transfer. Collaborate with entity-level Strategic Partnership teams to align relationships management and business development strategy. Provide and seek advice and assistance from the UCAR Exchange Board in developing and implementing a technology transfer strategy.

• External Engagement and Marketing. Serve as the UCAR primary point of contact for entities wishing to commercialize UCAR technology. Identify and approach external commercial entities regarding potential development and licensing opportunities for UCAR technology. Develop technology transfer agreement templates and negotiate option and/or license agreements and related documents for the transfer of UCAR technology. Build relationships with other Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) and research universities to exploit partnership and commercialization opportunities. Participate in regional and national organizations/programs supporting technology transfer, such as COLabs and AUTM. Build and maintain a catalog of UCAR-owned IP. Develop a public-facing website and marketing materials as the "front door" for potential commercial partners.

Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:

• Bachelor's degree in an Earth System Science or a related field

• 8 years of directly related and progressive experience at a public research university, national laboratory, or similar organization;

• -or an- equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired

• Masters or Doctorate degree in the field of Earth system science or a related field.

• 10 years of experience in Technology Transfer.

• Ability to work independently and to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish regular and project work within established timelines.

• Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.

• Advanced skill in handling complex business transactions and matters involving intellectual property, technology transfer and templates, licensing, compliance, and risk management in a research or technology company, federal government agency, or university environment.

• Ability to determine the fair market value of UCAR technology to successfully develop and implement commercial opportunities to transfer technology.

• Skilled in the use of business software and platforms for managing disclosures, transactions, and compliance activities.

• Ability to create and contribute to a positive work environment and actively contribute to the development of knowledge and skills of other employees.

• Ability to create and contribute to a work environment that emphasizes a high degree of professionalism, ethics, integrity, confidentiality, discretion, respect and inclusion.

• Advanced skill in building and maintaining relationships with broad group of both internal and external stakeholders, constituents and contacts, and solving issues through demonstrated leadership and influence of others to perform in the organization's best interest.

• Outstanding communication skills, including written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to convey ideas and information, and make oral presentations on complex business issues and interact successfully with a wide range of scientific staff, administrative staff, senior staff, and Exchange Board members.

• Commitment to customer service.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects.
