Job Description Summary:The Technology Transfer Manager (TTM) will design, build, and manage a technology transfer program at UCAR. The TTM will be responsible for performing a gap analysis, developing and executing on a vision to create a robust technology transfer office, including creating a strategic plan for success to include: creating training programs for employees, protecting all forms of IP created by employees with potential, determining the valuation of IP and the most appropriate marketing strategies to commercialize it, identifying and building relationships with research partners/industry customers, and developing/negotiating research/commercial agreements to enhance the economic and societal impact of UCAR developed technology.
This is a 2-year term position with the possibility of extension. This role will report to the Director of External Engagement and Business Development.

What You Will Do
Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.
Program Design and Management. Design and oversee the technology transfer and commercialization activities for UCAR. Manage internal stakeholders and commercialization partnerships with private sector parties. Direct all commercialization activities related to UCAR innovations, including identification, evaluation, protection, marketing, and licensing. Internal Engagement and Training. Develop a process for invention disclosures, assessment, patent filing and prosecution, and market analysis. Develop and implement strategies for growing the UCAR portfolio of translatable innovations and advance them along the innovation pipeline. Build relationships across UCAR to understand the research being conducted, raise awareness of technology commercialization and intellectual property protection process and initiatives. Develop and implement a strategy for training and education of employees on technology transfer. Collaborate with entity-level Strategic Partnership teams to align relationships management and business development strategy. Provide and seek advice and assistance from the UCAR Exchange Board in developing and implementing a technology transfer strategy. External Engagement and Marketing. Serve as the UCAR primary point of contact for entities wishing to commercialize UCAR technology. Identify and approach external commercial entities regarding potential development and licensing opportunities for UCAR technology. Develop technology transfer agreement templates and negotiate option and/or license agreements and related documents for the transfer of UCAR technology. Build relationships with other Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) and research universities to exploit partnership and commercialization opportunities. Participate in regional and national organizations/programs supporting technology transfer, such as COLabs and AUTM. Build and maintain a catalog of UCAR-owned IP. Develop a public-facing website and marketing materials as the "front door" for potential commercial partners.

Required
Bachelor's degree in an Earth System Science or a related field 8 years of directly related and progressive experience at a public research university, national laboratory, or similar organization; -or an- equivalent combination of education and experience.
