NOTE: As Bilingual (Spanish) is a requirement for this position it may qualify for additional pay per the county's dual language policy.

The CSU Extension Bilingual Outreach Educator helps the community and supports the education of Latinos by assisting in the delivery of educational programs in Spanish. This position will help foster partnerships with Latino communities in Arapahoe County. They will assist with marketing campaigns, and support community Latino volunteers to assist in the delivery of educational programs. This position will promote, in all ways consistent with other responsibilities of the position, the inclusivity goals established by CSU and Arapahoe County.

Duties

  • Deliver bilingual programs in Spanish and English to families and youth.
  • Attend outreach events at schools, community centers and other community events to provide information in Spanish.
  • Collaborate with local communities, county staff, county government, schools, libraries, community organizations, and other CSU academics and campus faculty (if applicable) on the design and delivery of new, innovative, and culturally responsive programs using a variety of educational methods that respond to the local Latino population's interests and needs.
  • Assist in identifying barriers to Latino youth, adults, and family participation in CSU Extension Programs.
  • Participate in community outreach events, tabling events, community collaborative, and/or educational events to promote CSU Extension Programs.
  • Speak with potential multicultural volunteers and club leaders through the community, organizations, and businesses.
  • Assist 4-H community clubs and Master Gardener Program with outreach efforts in Spanish and English to expand and diversify youth and adult volunteer membership and retention.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Fluency in Spanish Language.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English to conduct programs for Latino youth and families.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment, especially the Latino community.
  • Experience working with traditional and social media.
  • Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Administrative skills (answering questions, maintaining schedules, generating reports, logging procedures, etc.)

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One year clerical or administrative experience
  • One year customer service experience
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Experience working with youth (summer camps, recreational programs).
  • Experience translating and/or interpreting between English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with traditional and social media.

Supplemental Information

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
  • Possession of a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
  • Must successfully pass Spanish tests for speaking, reading, and writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work environment consists of a mix of office time and school or community center visitation.
  • Local travel required. Employee will have access to county vehicles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
  • Spends 50% of the time sitting and 50% of the time either upright or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.

Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
