Job Summary
The Director works with the university community to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors at all campus locations. This role will lead the department in creating a strong team culture focused on building relationships, community engagement, and a community-centered approach to campus safety.

Responsibilities

1. Campus Safety and Security Management - 35%
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute programs for the safety of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and campus facilities.
  • Oversee emergency response, physical security, crime prevention, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead a 24/7 security team, ensuring regular patrols, emergency response, recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure University compliance with all federal, state, and local security laws and regulations.
  • Review and update department policies and practices.


2. Threat Assessment and Emergency Preparedness - 20%
  • Lead/Chair the campus Threat Assessment Team and Emergency Response Team.
  • Develop and oversee risk/threat management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct preparedness training and serve on the Safety Committee.


3. Campus Collaboration and Safety Education - 15%
  • Work with campus departments to promote safety and develop educational programs.
  • Collaborate with university security leaders to review policies and best practices.


4. ID and Parking Administration - 10%
  • Oversee production of campus ID cards for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Manage parking control, permit issuance, signage, enforcement, and citation fine collection.


5. Community and Law Enforcement Relations - 10%
  • Build strong relationships with local officials and officers through joint training and preparedness plan sharing.


6. Clery Act Compliance - 5%
  • Serve as a designated Campus Security Authority responsible for all reporting under the Clery Act.


7. Shuttle Transportation Program - 5%
  • Oversee a comprehensive shuttle transportation program.

Required Skills

  • Must have demonstrated success in threat assessment and emergency response.
  • Must be able to move/traverse throughout the campus grounds and all university buildings.
  • Familiarity with the Clery Act, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential; must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals including faculty, staff, students, contractors and vendors.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be capable of working independently and as a team member in many different situations.
  • CPR/first aid experience required with "First Responder" training highly desirable.
Experience

Required Experience
  • 7+ years of related experience.
Education

Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field.
  • OR associate's degree and 10 years of relevant experience.

Additional Information

Travel: This position requires no travel.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

This position is required to carry a personal firearm while on duty.

Expected Hours of Work:
Typically, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position.
