General Notes

This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Center in North Austin.

Purpose

As part of a multi-disciplinary, integrated research team, the candidate will participate directly in efforts to provide information on the earthquake physics of seismicity in the State of Texas and elsewhere.



Responsibilities

  • Perform original and independent research on earthquake characteristics of Texas, the surrounding area of Texas, and elsewhere. Be involved in analyzing data collected from the TexNet earthquake monitoring and seismology research program. Provide synthetic models calibrated by observed data. Use existing and develop new approaches to compare different methods and tools.
  • Engage in outside funding activities and promote programs with stakeholders.
  • Present research results to funding agencies, report results of research in journal articles and books, and present results at professional meetings.
  • Provide service to professional societies, the Bureau of Economic Geology and the Jackson School of Geosciences. Serve on committees as needed.



Required Qualifications

PhD in seismology/geophysics or closely related discipline (applied mathematics, physics, geoscience, or engineering). Record of scientific publication in international journals, research performance, and professional achievement commensurate with experience. Proven record of successful leadership in a research environment in industry, or in academia. Ability and desire to work in varied, multi-disciplinary, integrated research teams. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in groups and independently, sometimes in demanding conditions. Ability to manage complex systems. Professional demeanor and excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.



Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience in analyzing and manipulating seismological data. Proficiency, with specific background and hands-on experience, with analysis of seismic/geoscience data and geophysical/geomechanical modelling. Experience in computer programming and ML in subsurface modelling. Knowledge of Python programming language, including experience in developing scripts and tools for data processing and analysis. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliverables. Willingness and ability to adapt to changing research programs and project needs.



Salary Range

$115,000+ depending on qualifications.
