Sonoma Public Infrastructure (SPI) leads the way to a safe and sustainable community by planning, building, managing, and maintaining Sonoma County's investment in quality services and infrastructure. SPI operates and maintains various facilities across the County, many of which were constructed during the 1950s and 60s and require consistent upkeep and care. The locations include the Airport Complex, County Administration Center, Chanate and Los Guilicos Campuses, Main Adult Detention Facility, and four Veterans' Memorial Buildings.
When you join our team as a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will perform a variety of tasks which will build the skills needed for work at our maintenance facilities and in the field, under varying conditions, and during occasional weekend shifts. Responsibilities for these positions include:
• Performing diagnosis, maintaining, and repairing/servicing the County's on/off road equipment, medium/heavy duty trucks, emergency and man-lift vehicles, park, road, and construction maintenance equipment vehicles, generators, and other miscellaneous equipment • Repairing/rebuilding engines, transmissions, hydraulic system, and fuel injection systems • Responding to road calls and performs diagnostics and repair in the field • Determining part(s) needed, and researching and entering parts order into a web-based recordkeeping system • Inspecting and servicing emissions control devices and performing related vehicle testing and certification • Performing California Highway Patrol Basic Inspection of Terminals inspections • Tuning engines, taking compression tests, and adjusting timing and valves • Performing acetylene, arc, and electric welding to fit, fabricate, or repair parts • Communicating with customers and vendors on the equipment status and repair • Monitoring and performing routine maintenance on shop equipment • Assisting with training and serving as a subject matter expert for mechanics and interns • Performing routine computer data entry on daily work performed and retrieving previous repairs
