Water/Wastewater Engineering Designer/Engineer-in-Training

DEA's Salt Lake City, UT office is currently hiring for a Water/Wastewater Engineering Designer/Engineer in our Water and Environment Business Unit. The primary focus for this position will be to work on a wide variety of municipal water and wastewater projects as part of the design team, under the direction of a professional engineer. This position will work on and learn: water system conveyance design; water system storage; sanitary conveyance design (gravity and pumped systems); hydraulic modelling analysis; preparation of water and wastewater infrastructure feasibility studies and master plans; preparation of engineering and construction plans, specifications and estimates; coordination with regulatory agencies for project permitting, and review and administration of development utility extension projects. Additionally, this role will assist with wet and dry utility relocation work on Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) projects. This will involve assisting in coordination and utility relocation designs on water systems, sewer systems, irrigation systems, telecom infrastructure, gas lines, power lines, and other utility lines with UDOT right-of-way

It will be the responsibility of the position to perform engineering design and to provide a high-quality product to DEA's current and future clients.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and contribute to the growth of our Water/Wastewater group.
  • Participate in the planning and design of a wide range of municipal water/wastewater systems and facilities including hydraulic analysis and modeling. Work includes computer-based calculations and plan/profile design, and plan preparation.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards.
  • Interface with clients and public agencies on an as-needed basis.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training certificate (minimum) or Professional Engineer registration with the ability to obtain UT PE within one year.
  • 0-7 years of experience as a municipal utilities design engineer with general civil and water/wastewater design experience or similar utilities experience in a development engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and AutoCAD
    • Experience in ORD is a highly desired.
