Transportation Technician

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Transportation Technician for a position based in Venango County. This role is classified as a journeyman level position, which entails a variety of responsibilities primarily focused on construction inspection activities. In this position, you will be responsible for providing inspection services that ensure adherence to contract specifications, aligning with the Department's objectives of minimizing costs while upholding quality standards. Your duties will include reviewing completed work unit documentation and materials utilized to verify their accuracy and compliance with Department policies. You will also play a key role in directing, coordinating, and managing the District's field construction project records and documentation, while assisting in areas such as PPCC, ECMS, Labor Compliance, and EEO. Additionally, you will support the inspection of various routine phases of highway construction, which involves checking grades, elevations, and the stakeout of roadways and simple structures. Your responsibilities will extend to inspecting work zone traffic control signs and devices, ensuring they are positioned and maintained according to the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and relevant publications, including Publication 212, 213, or the MUTCD. You will perform essential mathematical calculations to assess the consistency of materials used, create sketches, document field plan modifications, and maintain comprehensive inspection, progress, and quality control reports related to ongoing work. Close observation of construction operations, plant operations, and material testing will be crucial, as you will enforce contract stipulations throughout the process. Furthermore, you will be expected to read, comprehend, and research plans, drawings, cross-sections, contracts, specifications, manuals, and publications as necessary. Your role will also involve inspecting all items listed in Publication 408, preparing and maintaining essential documentation, including mobile computing applications, PSAs, materials books, concrete and bituminous inspection logs, plant diaries, straight line charts, and as-built drawings. You will perform various duties associated with the construction project field office and provide assistance in material testing and work inspections, interpreting contract and Departmental specifications and requirements for contractors regarding testing and sampling methods. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis during winter season. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

• This particular position also requires possession of a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
