Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs high-level duties associated with the operations and maintenance of the mechanical systems used to support large rocket engine or article testing.
- Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents.
- Guide, mentor and train new or lesser experienced techs to ensure a capable and knowledgeable work force.
- As a working lead technician, you will also assign work to various technicians and verify proper results are attained and correct procedures are followed in a safe manner.
- Work areas can involve tight quarters and physical agility/dexterity is necessary to perform job functions.
- Must be comfortable with, and capable of, climbing up and down ladders, stairs, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, carrying, and crawling.
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments, including heat/cold/rain, etc.
- Must be able to work at heights and in fall protection zones with proper PPE.
- Some positions may require use of elevated PPE, including respirators and other protective suits/equipment.
- Perform work within deadlines or without direct supervision.
- Some positions may require entry into confined spaces with proper PPE and training.
Qualifications
REQUISITE SKILLS:
- Experience with government facilities programs desirable but not necessary.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with rocket propulsion desirable but not necessary - willing to learn.
- The candidate shall have a good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint).
- A working knowledge of the English language is required.
- The candidate shall be able to operate in a team environment, and shall have good interpersonal, reporting and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Troubleshooting, identifying, and resolving mechanical problems, including pumping operations, pressures, and equipment malfunctions.
- Repair, replacing damaged or malfunctioning mechanical components (tubing, valves, actuators, piping, etc).
- Ability to use tubing bending, cutting, threading equipment and perform tubing installations.
- Testing using test equipment to measure pressures and flow rates to ensure proper system function (vacuum pumps, gages, flow meters, etc).
- Following Safety Regulations adhering to safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and other local codes.
- Communicating with Clients/Customers explaining mechanical issues to customers, outlining repair solutions, and recommending preventative measures.
- Reading Schematics and Piping & Instrumentation diagrams, interpreting technical diagrams to understand system layouts and mechanical configurations.
- Using Tools and Equipment, employing a variety of tools and measuring instruments for installation, testing, and repair tasks.
- Install, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and high-pressure piping systems, etc.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with mechanical systems and perform repairs or replacements of faulty components.
- Perform routine preventative/corrective maintenance following established schedules and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
- Work with engineers and other technicians to improve processes and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Assist supervisors and managers in identifying and mitigating potentially hazardous conditions.
- Comply with all safety and health related rules, regulations, and procedures where applicable.
- Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and outside vendors.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge in solving problems and performing complex tasks in the fabrication, checkout, build-up phase, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of rocket testing support systems.
- Possess and make use of contamination control techniques required to maintain mechanical systems.
- Mock up and fabricate new systems as required for test support.
- Write reports and update management on project activities.
- Ensure proper planning for all jobs and be able to manage several tasks at one time.
- Work with management to develop new training requirements.
- Work with customers and management to establish work priorities.
- Experience with DDMS and Maximo is desirable but not necessary.
- Checks on, inspects, and ensures other technicians' work is satisfactory and meets SSC & SLI standards.
- All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 6 years site experience or,
- 5 years site experience with a related 2 year degree
- Computer experience
- The ability to lift heavy objects is required, up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- The candidate shall be a US Citizen.
- The candidate must be able to complete a background check for test complex and facility access.
