East Bay Municipal Utility District is now accepting applications for Meter Mechanic I. This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies that occur over the next 12 months. Additionally, individuals in this position are expected to have basic mechanical knowledge and skills for successful job performance. Newly hired individuals are expected to complete designated trades training courses. After successfully completing the training period, people are usually promoted to Meter Mechanic II.

The Meter Mechanic I, under supervision, learns by assisting more skilled people in cleaning, repairing, testing, and adjusting water meters and related metering and control devices. Work also includes assisting with inspections and maintenance of other mechanical equipment such as valves. These positions are assigned to the Meter Maintenance section of our water system's Maintenance & Construction Department.

Typical duties include:

*Learning to use the tools required for successful performance at the trainee level.

* Participating in on-the-job training performing a wide variety of work assignments given by journey level workers.

* Learning to utilize the correct safety procedures in carrying out job tasks.

The salary range is $6,676 per month increasing to $7,010, $7,360, and $7,728 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.
