General Summary of Position

This job posting is specifically for our MedStar Washington Hospital Center matched PGY1 Residents to apply to. Other applicants are not able to be considered.

Participates in an organized, directed, postgraduate training program in pharmacy with an emphasis on pharmaceutical care. Experience will be obtained in acute patient care, drug information, teaching, drug use policy development, and in practice management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acute Patient Care/ Ambulatory Patient Care:
    Evaluates and monitors drug therapy of assigned patients.
    Responds to evaluative and non-evaluative drug information requests.
    Evaluates and dispenses medication orders.
    Prepares intravenous admixtures and compounds sterile products.
    Compounds extemporaneous products
    Dispenses controlled substances and maintains perpetual inventory
    Performs nursing unit inspections.
    Interviews patients to obtain medication history and counsels patients on the safe and appropriate use of medications.
    Provides coverage on weekends in addition to regular training schedule.
  • Drug Information, Teaching, and Drug Use Policy Development.
    Responds to evaluative and non-evaluative drug information requests.
    Performs drug use evaluations.
    Prepares monographs and other reports (medication errors, adverse drug reactions, etc.) for use by the Department and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
    Participates in the development, implementation, and management of clinical practice guidelines and therapeutic interchange programs.
    Provides in-service education for pharmacists and other health care professionals.
    Assist in teaching pharmacy students
  • Practice Management
    Participates in the conduct of quality assurance activities.
    Participates in the development of the department budget and othe financial reports
    Participates in the development of departmental statistical reports.
    Completes a research project.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy required

    Experience

    • Completion of 1,500 hours of professional pharmacy practice as a student or graduate pharmacist; and additional 400 hours of pharmacy work experience in distribution of medicines and prescriptions outside of school.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist in the District of Columbia within 120 Days required


    This position has a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494
