Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure facilities and provides effective community supervision in sup- port of successful reentry.

Job Overview:

The Correctional Compliance Specialist II position is assigned to one of the grand regions (West) to oversee institutional compliance with Department of Justice Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, American Correction Association (ACA) standards, and Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury audits. Duties and responsibilities include attending Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) meetings, participating in SART walkthroughs, con- ducting mock PREA audits regularly, reviewing Departmental policies related to PREA, dis- tributing news, updates, and training opportunities regarding PREA practices, auditing strategies, and standards to institutional sta. The Correctional Compliance Specialist II conducts ACA le reviews quarterly for each institution to ensure compliance and readiness for ACA audits, attends annual institutional compliance audits conducted by OIG, attends audits conducted by ACA, and provides support and training assistance to institutional compliance sta. Additionally, the Correctional Compliance Specialist II prepares audit reports and presentations, participating in the development and review of inspection instruments, and attends PREA and ACA conferences, as requested. This position re- ports directly to the Audit Director I External Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend SART meetings and SART walkthroughs of each assigned institution.
  • Conduct mock PREA audits of each assigned institution.
  • Distribute new, updates, and training opportunities regarding PREA to institutional sta. Conduct quarterly ACA le reviews for each assigned institution.
  • Attend annual institutional compliance audits conducted by OIG. Attend ACA audits for each assigned institution.
  • Assist with the Departments participation in audits conducted by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury.
  • Prepare compliance reports and presentations for executive sta. Maintain a tracking system for ndings notated during audits.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of inspection instruments.
  • Assist with the development of policies related to ACA and PREA programs.
  • Review policies, as assigned. Provide guidance to institutions regarding ACA and PREA compliance, as necessary.
  • Provide training and guidance to institutional sta on compliance processes, as necessary; and attend ACA and PREA conferences, upon request.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to ve years of correctional work.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional correctional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year- for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

OR

7 years of compliance or auditing experience in correctional facilities or programs.
