Summary: Reporting to the Director of Asset Protection and Safety or designee, the Asset Protection Associate is responsible for enhancing safety and security across Melrose Plaza by maintaining a visible, initiative-taking presence. This role focuses on observing and reporting suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, and policy violations while delivering exceptional customer service. The Asset Protection Associate acts as a deterrent to criminal and disruptive behavior, supports daily operations, and assists employees and visitors to ensure a positive and secure experience. Essential Functions:
- Conduct routine patrols throughout Melrose Plaza, maintaining a visible presence to deter criminal activity, loitering, and ensure the safety of employees, customers, visitors, and property.
- Patrol interior areas of the grocery store, monitoring customer behavior for signs of potential theft or suspicious activity, and report findings to management without direct engagement.
- Monitor entrances, exits, and high-value merchandise sections to maintain a strong loss prevention presence.
- Conduct patrols on foot and via company-provided golf cart to ensure thorough coverage of the property, including rear and side access points, and report unauthorized parking, open doors, or suspicious activity.
- Serve as a visible deterrent to theft, harassment, and other disruptive behavior through initiative-taking and professional presence.
- Open, close, and secure the building at the beginning and end of daily operations according to established procedures.
- Monitor security cameras and report incidents or provide footage to management or law enforcement upon request.
- Maintain an "observe and report" policy at all times, avoiding engagement with potentially dangerous individuals beyond deterrence efforts.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions that could pose risks to individuals or property to support overall safety initiatives.
- Support property upkeep efforts by picking up litter during patrols, discouraging damaging behavior, and reporting maintenance concerns including damage to structures, equipment, or safety hazards.
- Provide excellent customer service to employees, customers, visitors, and vendors, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment across Melrose Plaza.
- Assist visitors and employees by offering information about Melrose Plaza, providing directions, and escorting individuals to their destinations as needed.
- Escort employees and customers to vehicles upon request and assist with carrying items when appropriate.
- Engage with individuals appearing lost or loitering by offering assistance when appropriate or encouraging them to leave when necessary.
- Assist with administrative tasks and special assignments as directed by the Store Manager or Director of Asset Protection and Safety.
- Accomplish all tasks as assigned to fulfill the mission of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys (GIV), maintaining consistent attendance and punctuality standards.
- Attend GIV meetings as required and present information as requested.
- Attend in-service and related training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
- Adhere to all Goodwill personnel policies and procedures.

- Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and company policies.
- Proficiency in drafting clear, concise reports and business correspondence, including detailed documentation of incidents and observations.
- Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak confidently before groups and effectively interact with employees, customers, vendors, and visitors.
- Adaptability to varied job assignments and responsiveness in recognizing and reporting potential issues to appropriate supervisory staff.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and address situations where established procedures may be limited or unclear.

- Proficiency in security technologies, including the operation and monitoring of CCTV systems, communication devices, and other safety tools.

- Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.
- Strong digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and basic database management. Familiarity with E-Z Maintenance Software is a plus.
- Physical ability to perform regular foot patrols and operate a company-provided golf cart, including walking for extended periods and navigating various areas of the property.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in customer service, security, or a related field.
- Previous experience in loss prevention, security, investigations, or interviewing required.
- Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required period of time upon employment.
Special Requirements:
- Personal vehicle usage is required for this position, including a reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and the ability to provide proof of insurance for driving on company business.
- An acceptable motor vehicle record, based on Goodwill guidelines, is required for driving a personal or company vehicle.
- Must provide a cell phone for specified work responsibilities, including the use of a phone-based application for authentication.
- A high-speed, reliable broadband internet connection is required for job functions.
- Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.

- Regular patrols may require extended periods of walking, standing, and operating a golf cart across varied terrain.
