Website: https://www.stmarysregional.com POSITION SUMMARY: Performs mammographic procedures at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs quality assurance and quality control activities to meet MQSA, ACR accreditation and federal regulations. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all mammography exams required by the department utilizing proper positioning and technical standards. Accurately identifies normal and pathological processes and distinguishes them from artifacts. Assures patient requisition is accurate and completed immediately upon exam. Provides physician with accurate patient history and technical impressions. Documents and records information required on films and requisitions. Reviews patient procedure protocols for optimal imaging, opportunities to reduce patient radiation exposure/dosage and still maintain image integrity. The mammographic demonstrates ability in: proper powering up of equipment, maintaining of equipment, stocking of equipment, troubleshooting and requesting repairs as needed, develops and documents exposures, labels all films, completes all requisitions for radiological interpretation and keeps exam rooms clean. Demonstrates proper application and release of compression and ability to compress tautly, but without pain. Demonstrates proper use of equipment in the care of the mammography patient. Demonstrates proper technique selection. Knowledgeable of the mechanics of the unit and when service is necessary. Demonstrates the proper operation of equipment and positioning of patients for most accurate bone density measurement. Understands the QC of the unit and when it is sub-optimal and service is needed. Produces accurate measurements and documentation of results in patient image record/folder. Demonstrates proper use of equipment in the care of the Affirm upright biopsy patient. Demonstrates proper technique selection. Proficiently assists radiologist with biopsy procedure. Maintaining sterility during and after procedure. Knowledgeable of the mechanics of the unit and when service is necessary. Insures all supplies are obtained and readily available for all intervention procedures. Demonstrates the proper operation of equipment and positioning of patients for most accurate ultrasound image throughout all procedures performed. Maintaining their comfort level. Demonstrates proper technique selection. Demonstrates correct positioning of patient. Knowledgeable of the mechanics of the unit and when service is necessary. Performs breast ultrasound proficiently. Knows correct anatomy, abnormalities and artifacts. Provides optimal imaging for radiologist diagnosis. Obtains all breast US images needed with correct orientation and image annotation. Can proficiently utilize breast ultrasound for guidance for all interventional exams where US is required. Offers bedside assistance to radiologists during ultrasound interventional procedures providing optimal images for the best results. Insures all supplies are obtained and readily available for all ultrasound intervention procedures. Demonstrates operation of magnification and spot compression devices. Perform ABUS breast ultrasound procedures proficiently. Applies correct amount of coupling gel, applies correct compression for imaging. Acquires all appropriate ABUS images in correct sequence. Technologist can distinguish between quality images and those with artifact. Insures all anatomy is acquired and optimal images are captured. Properly cleans and disinfects ABUS unit for next usage. Makes sure all supplies are ordered and available for next patient. Records Image quality control and documents the reason if not compliant and how to correct. Performs QC evaluations as per equipment manufacturer. Perform weekly digital mammo unit calibrations, unit flat field and compression testing. Perform weekly view box cleanliness and testing. Perform monthly visual checklist of all systems. Perform every 6 months digital mammo unit compression testing with scale. Monitors phantom image quality weekly recognizing variations. Maintains appropriate records as required by MQSA /FDA and ACR. Maintains outcome data and reports as outlined by policy. Participates in departmental QI programs. Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry eligible. Must be registered within 3 months of employment and maintain registration. BLS required within six months of employment. American Cancer Society certification to teach BSE (breast self-examination) is preferred. Previous mammography experience required. Good written and verbal skills. Typing and basic computer skills required. Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.
