WPS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Substation Designer in our Green Bay, Wisconsin location. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement(remote/on-site) with time spent in the office.

This is a job family (Substation Designer/Senior Substation Designer) posting where experience will be the determing factor.

Job Summary

Develops detailed physical and electrical construction designs for electric substation and electric generation. Develops drawings, creates purchase orders and participates in project meetings. Performs site walk downs to verify print accuracy. Researches and gathers component information needed to create drawings and engineering documentation. Provides technical support of substation construction or maintenance activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design and develop one line diagrams, site plans, 3D models, electrical panel layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams from initial concept to final design. Develop special engineering documentation used to install, operate, and maintain substation equipment. Communicate and resolve design issues with the Engineers, Technicians, and Electricians.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Technicians, and Electricians on various project tasks such as developing project scopes and developing design standards. Requisition equipment, materials, and services. Assist in developing bidding documents, evaluation and selection of qualified suppliers. Assist in the development of project cost estimates and schedules. Resolve construction problems.
  • Participate in on-site preliminary design meetings to discuss and clarify technical details. Attend meetings and discussions with equipment suppliers for product application questions and updates. Document existing system configuration, verify scope of project. Clarify design details concerning operation, wiring, or layout of equipment.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation and standards. Assist in developing bidding documents, evaluation and selection of qualified suppliers. Resolve construction problems. Technical point of contact for engineering detail.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, Electronic, Civil or related discipline.
  • 1+ years - Utilizing CADD Software common to design projects
  • 1+ years - Coordinating engineering and design aspects of construction projects. This includes interpreting/analyzing drawings, assessing equipment/suppliers and resolving problems with construction crews
  • Experience with MicroStation

End Date: 05/20/2025

Pay Range Minimum: $32.16

Pay Range Maximum: $55.48

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
