Crew Supervisor - Construction

Position Description

  • Initiates and supervises work in conjunction with the operation, maintenance and construction of Santee Cooper's generation stations, transmission system, dams, dikes and properties.
  • This position must be available to work out of town on a continuous basis and be available for 24-hour on call status.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Coordinates and supervises use of equipment, materials, manpower and contract services, to accomplish construction and maintenance of civil projects. This involves providing the construction services within the prescribed schedule and at least cost possible while meeting the needs of the internal or external customer. Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment capabilities, soil conditions, site preparation and other civil construction techniques.
  • Operates heavy and light equipment including excavators, dozers, motor graders, loaders, pans, truck tractors, lowboys, farm tractors, compactor, etc.
  • Supervises assigned crew personnel. Reviews and trains personnel in construction methods and safety. Makes recommendations for promotions or disciplinary action and identifies and recommends applicants for hire. Coordinates and procures lodging and meals for out of town crews and is responsible for the crews actions while away from official headquarters.
  • Conducts field surveys and site layouts. An ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications is required.
  • Performs administrative duties including timesheets, vehicle reports, requisitions, progress reports, initiation of work orders and material procurement from requisition to receipt. Reviews and approves P-Card purchase reports.
  • Applies herbicides using appropriate equipment and techniques to control unwanted vegetation in civil projects.
  • Maintains accurate records of herbicide usage, application rates, and areas treated for reporting and regulatory compliance purposes.


  • Position Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED with additional technical courses + 10 years related experience required.
  • Associate's Degree in a technical field + 8 years experience preferred.
  • Must be able to run light and heavy equipment and enter Confined Spaces.
  • Must have unrestricted (except P) CDL Class A is required with appropriate endorsements within 6 months of hire.
  • SC DHEC Certified Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector (CEPSCI) Certification may be required.
  • Herbicide applicators license may be required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $32.56 - $40.80 (min. - mid.)
