Cranbrook Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic First Grade Assistant Teacher to join our Brookside Lower School team for the 2025-26 academic year. This is a part-time position, working 27.5 hours per week. Working under the guidance of our experienced First Grade Teachers, this position will play a vital role in fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for our young students. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute directly to the academic and social-emotional growth of children in a supportive and collaborative setting.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Assist lead teachers in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities.
  • Provide academic support to individual students or small groups (particularly with reading, writing, and math).
  • Encourage positive peer interactions while supporting appropriate school behavior.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and recess.
  • Maintain professional communication with students, teachers, and families.
  • The teaching assistant will contribute to classroom management by reinforcing routines and behavioral expectations.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials and setting up the classroom learning environment each day.
  • The assistant will perform clerical tasks such as copying, filing, organizing student work, and maintaining classroom inventory.


Requirements:



  • Preference will be given to candidates who have professional training and experience in the fields of Early Childhood, Child Development, or Elementary Education.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • They will be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, maintain and respect confidentiality, and be able to build positive relationships with both children and colleagues.
  • All responsibilities must be fulfilled in accordance with Cranbrook Schools' mission.
