The Manager-Data Product Management (PM) (Consumer) drives adoption, growth, and profitability for assigned consumer products and services, by developing strategies, products, and promotions that advance business goals. As a leader on the team, the PM manages high-impact, time-sensitive initiatives and navigates internal and external challenges to deliver results.

The PM is a subject matter expert, staying attuned to customer needs, market trends, competitors, and emerging technologies. They define and communicate product value, collaborate with marketing on go-to-market strategies, and support internal sales and operational teams by assisting in the creation of training resources and through continual engagement with sales leaders. In addition to managing product roadmaps, budgets, and profitability, the PM analyzes performance trends to identify opportunities, develops proposals, and executes initiatives to improve performance where needed. They also lead policy and process development and ensure smooth execution of new product launches.



Responsibilities

    Act as a consumer product line expert to coordinate and participate in interdepartmental work groups with respect to:
    • Leveraging data to support the development of short and long-term competitive strategy to maximize revenue, grow subscribers, and minimize churn.
    • Working with stakeholders in setting long term product direction, product lifecycle management, and implementation of new technologies.
    • Evaluating potential new market opportunities, supporting new market launches, monitoring actual vs estimated results and monitoring competitive marketing and pricing information and providing updates to impacted teams.
    • Preparing business plans and businesses cases as necessary.
    • Developing pricing strategies, monitoring effectiveness, and implementing adjustments to maximize gross adds and revenue.
    • Ensuring delivery of quality products and services.
    • Resolving complex billing, process, or technical issues.
    • Implementing process improvements for expense and COGS reduction.
    • Managing ongoing operational issues related to technology, software, or system changes.
  • Work closely with other business units in support of the following consumer product issues/initiatives:
    • Regulated and legal issues related to assigned consumer products and services.
    • Technical support, installations, and troubles.
    • Bulk, quick-connect, and other MDU sales and marketing initiatives.
    • Strategic billing and system related issues.
    • Creation and ongoing updates for product line collateral, user guides, training guides, webinars, and videos.
    • Sales goals, incentives, results, and product training.
    • Competition/penetration requirement analyses for New Build and Joint Trench projects to determine which are recommended to move forward for leadership review/approval.
  • Act as subject matter expert for assigned consumer product/service line(s). Respond to product inquiries from multiple TDS departments related to product specifications, process, procedure, competitors, pricing, and roadmap.
  • Prepare annual product plan, annual revenue budgets, and long-range forecasts for assigned consumer product/service line(s). Work with Finance to develop models for revenue/COGS budgeting process as well as business cases to evaluate product line additions and operational viability of existing products and market segments.
  • Manage and interface with external vendors in the following areas: vendor selection, contract negotiation and management, ongoing troubleshooting, and regular vendor relationship management and interaction. Responsible for managing quality and service levels of selected vendors. Responsible for business case analysis for making purchase recommendations for new offerings from the vendor.


Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 5+ years of telecommunications experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in one or a combination of product development/management, project management, finance, marketing, and/or network services/operations.

  • Maintains current knowledge of customer needs, technology, vendor options, competitive offerings and internal capabilities.
  • Results driven, especially in the face of resistance or setbacks.
  • Excellent organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications skills, including presentation skills to executive leadership.
  • Must be versatile and adaptable to work with staff of diverse backgrounds, and levels within and outside the organization.
