What you'll be doing...

Verizon is seeking a dynamic and talented lawyer to support compliance initiatives for Verizon Business Group. This is a unique and challenging position that involves working in a globally integrated business unit of a Fortune 50 company at the crossroads of telecommunications, security, and information technology solutions. This counsel position offers the correct candidate an opportunity to support a variety of business activities in emerging areas within the Technology sector. This position will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel, VBG Compliance.

Responsibilities will include

  • Support the Partner channel on a wide range of issues including advising on external investigations and drafting compliance notices for program term violations and improper sales practices.

  • Evaluate and advise on VBG sales compensation structure and incentive programs.

  • Provide legal advice related to VBG wireless and wireline sales integrity policies and practices.

  • Proactively identify existing and emerging compliance risks and work with business leaders, finance, sales operations, and risk management on remediation.

  • Draft policies and procedures to ensure consistent and sound practices, and ensure existing policies and procedures are current, effectively implemented and communicated to employees.

  • Coordinate with Verizon Compliance on VBG-related investigations, Integrity Surveys, and Executive Risk Assessments.

  • Draft high-impact client communications for VBG organization.

  • Work with internal partners to develop compliance communications and training materials for VBG on topics such as sales integrity, privacy, and regulatory requirements to promote understanding of compliance risks.

  • Support compliance with FCC, FTC, and other agency regulatory requirements.

  • Provide support to VBG for information security matters to VBG BISO, deal legal and clients

  • Collaborate with internal Security, Audit, IT, and other stakeholders to review governance processes, assist with risk assessments, support remediation efforts for data security or process improvements, and advise the business team on improving business practices.

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Admission and good standing in at least one state (if not New Jersey, then eligibility for New Jersey In-House Counsel Limited Licensure).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Relevant and recent legal experience in a similar work environment (i.e., law firm, government, or fast paced in-house corporate legal department).

  • Strong focus on counseling clients on domestic and international data privacy regulations as well as information security and cybersecurity issues (e.g., PCI, CPNI, FISMA, HIPAA, ISO 27000, SSAE 16, among others).

  • Experience with artificial intelligence and privacy and security issues around them

  • Some experience with providing general compliance advice on other issues, such as billing surcharges, CPNI, eRate, among others.

  • Knowledge of the telecommunications and technology industry is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.

  • Well-honed project management and organizational skills needed to closely manage multiple transactions and complex projects and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.

  • Ability to interact comfortably with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.

  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.

  • Self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead, and implement special projects.

  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Google Workspace and the ability to learn and work in Verizon contracting and workflow reporting systems.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annually salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $161,000.00 - $280,000.00.
