The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) ranks among the best in the country. Our research programs are at the forefront of the technologies that have changed the world we live in. Carnegie Mellon University's department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for an Academic Advisor. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and meaningful work environment. You will provide crucial support to the department by providing quality academic program advising, counseling, and general student life assistance to undergraduate and M.S. students in ECE. This position is essential to the develop ment and support of ECE's academic programs and students.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors student progress throughout the program to ensure that students are on track to meet graduation requirements. Certifies students to graduate each semester;
  • Primary point of contact for the HUB/University Registrar's Office - management of student records, course schedules, and other processes/documentation as they relate to registration and student/academic records;
  • Provides academic program information to students regarding department and university course requirements, policies, opportunities, and resources;
  • Collaborates and coordinates student support with faculty advisors and advising leadership;
  • Liaises with the Office of International Education (OIE) to address international student issues and immigration requests for current students;
  • Participates in various department-, college- and university-level meetings as appropriate to stay informed and share information and standard methodologies;
  • Participates in department and college events - Spring Yield, Orientation, student information sessions (for new and continuing students), etc.;
  • Assists in planning for, and participates in, ECE's Diploma ceremonies each May during Commencement Weekend
  • Maintains and updates ECE academic and student resource-related web pages and other departmental resources;
  • Facilitates the selection process for several student award opportunities each year;
  • Contributes to various reporting efforts for internal and external use;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least one year of academic advising experience

Requirements:

  • Successful Background check required
