Job Summary
Elmhurst University is looking for qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Bilingual/ ESL Endorsement program.
Course Program:


  • TEL 204 Cross-Cultural Studies in Teaching English Language Learners

  • TEL 212 Theoretical Foundations of Teaching English Language Learners

  • TEL 317 Methods and Materials for Teaching English Language Learners

  • TEL 319 Linguistics for Second Language Learning

  • TEL 439 Assessment of English Language Learners


Possibly also teach MTL 569 Linguistics for Second Language Learning which is the graduate level equivalent of TEL 319. This MTL 569 would need a doctorate.
Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Bilingual/ ESL program chair, adjunct faculty will:

  • Manage course materials on our Blackboard platform
  • Facilitate class instruction in accordance with learning objectives
  • Encourage active student participation and create a safe classroom space
  • Use diverse teaching methods, adjust the pace of instruction, ask criticalquestions and incorporate activities to increase engagement
  • Evaluate student performance on course assignments with timely feedback
  • Participate in department meetings to discuss the course outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Bilingual/ ESL Education, Elementary Education,Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field
  • Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement
  • At least 3+ plus years of experience teaching at the PK-12 level withdemonstrated success in the development of ESL/Bilingual curriculum andinstruction
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, currently holds (or previously held) aBilingual Endorsement (Spanish Language) and a Professional EducatorsLicense in Illinois
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work positively with students and other instructors
  • Ability to work with racially, culturally and economically diverse students

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching hybrid or online courses.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
