The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Accounting Assistant.

About the Opportunity

Serve as a purchasing agent within Mountaineer Market Place, ChromeRiver (WVU and WVUF) and hold a purchasing card, for departmental procurement use. Processing includes: monitoring documentation and organizing receipts for appropriate signatures, seeking out missing documentation, preparing travel authorizations and expense reimbursement forms. May be required to coordinate staff travel needs with associated executive assistants.

What You'll Do



  • Maintain internal tracking system for monthly expenses during reconciliation period, and update reports for supervisor. Responsible for some file organization and data entry on a monthly basis.
  • Assists in monthly grant reconciliations and becomes familiar with WVU systems processes for such. Includes salary and fringe reconciliation and updates, processing expense to appropriate budgets and managing timelines for grant funding expirations. Work closely with clinical trial expenses and reconciliation for protocol budgets. May generate invoices for third party sponsors and track incoming payments.
  • Assist with fixed asset updates, throughout purchasing, tagging and tracking process.
  • Assist with accounts payable processes and guidelines for WVU/ WVU Research Corp / WVU Foundation / University Health Associates, and WVU Medicine. And maintain a roster of all associated funding strings pertinent to the departmental budget.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as directed for the RNI business administration.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in accounting, business or related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the University financial and accounting systems.
  • Ability to learn and interpret University, State and Federal policies and processes.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Ability to organize information, strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and set priorities regarding work to be accomplished.
  • Strong math skills to perform calculations.
  • Thorough knowledge and usage of correct English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Experience with all Microsoft applications, extensive understanding of Excel for day-to-day use.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.

The WVURC receives and administers funds awarded by external agencies for research and other activities and is responsible for helping protect intellectual property through patents, copyrights and licensing agreements for start-up companies based on University research.
