Job Description: Responsible for design and analysis of new and existing bridges, retaining walls, bridge rehabilitations, culverts, sign structures, and related structures for the transportation industry, including for Maryland MTA. Working independently and without supervision, prepare detailed engineering drawings and calculations, drawings, sections and structural details, notes and specifications for project bid documents in accordance with all applicable codes and government standards, including AASHTO, ACI, AISC and AREMA and other relevant codes as applicable; perform bridge load ratings, quantity take-off and cost estimating, report writing, review of shop and working drawings and load rating computations; conduct bridge condition inspections and inspections of highway and rail transit structures, including leading bridge inspection teams; visit client and project sites as necessary. Duties require extensive utilization of specialized engineering and design software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, StaadPro, AASHTOWare, RISA, StructurePoint, PENNDOT Engineering software, VBent, RCPier, and LeapBridge Concrete. Position requires approximately 20% of travel time to project sites in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia. Requires: Bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering with coursework in bridge engineering and design of steel structures, followed by minimum 3 years' experience either in position offered or 3 years' of engineering design and construction management experience through all project phases, including: conducting site analyses, engineering design planning and drawing preparation utilizing AutoCAD; monitoring project status to ensure compliance with project timelines, budgets and contract deliverables; providing quality control oversight; management of project materials; maintaining project documentation and ensuring adherence to applicable safety regulations and industry standards. Master's degree in civil or construction engineering may be used to satisfy up to two years of required experience. State of Maryland Professional Engineer License (PE) also required.
