Essential Job Functions

  • Issue parking citations with correct information.
  • Provide clear, precise information in radio communications using 10 codes.
  • Prepare shift and incident reports neatly and correctly.
  • Program is high profile, with frequent contact with donors, trustees, politicians, and other special guests of the University. Consequently, officer must know how to communicate effectively with all constituencies, exhibiting professional conduct at all times.
  • Provide courteous assistance to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Avoid confrontational behavior, and remain composed in stressful situations.
  • Monitor all campus parking facilities, issuing citations on vehicles not parked in compliance with regulations.
  • Exhibit perseverance and consistency in enforcement duties.
  • Provide lower level personal security for patrons in parking lots, being alert for any problems.
  • Relate to the public with courtesy at all times.
  • Be alert and perform duties in a manner that promotes personal safety, and the safety of coworkers.
  • Provide traffic direction as needed within the campus parking areas for athletic events, cultural events, construction projects, student move in/move out operations, etc...
  • Remain alert and professional at all times in order to lessen the chance of vehicular and pedestrian accidents.
  • Patrol parking areas to document surface conditions and overhead lighting, providing timely reports to management of needed maintenance and improvements.
  • Patrol the campus parking decks, removing surface trash as needed, and checking for other issues such as graffiti, and malfunctioning elevators and stairwell doors.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate vehicles, two-way radios, parking control equipment, personal computers, and smart phones.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the position.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, to record information accurately and in legible handwriting, and to communicate effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, retain, and implement parking regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to work on foot in a variety of environments, including areas with high vehicular traffic, low light areas, and with exposure to extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to patrol assigned areas on foot, and climb stairs as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer at least one (1) year of work experience with a parking services operation at a university, municipality, or hospital.

Physical Demands of Position
Employee must be capable of applying/removing a wheel immobilization device, standing/walking for long periods of time, driving sign posts into the ground and lifting/placing barricades. signs and traffic cones weighing as much as 30 lbs. on a repetitive basis. Employee must also be capable of working outdoors in some very extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.

Consequently, officers must know how to communicate effectively with all constituencies, exhibiting professional conduct at all times. Must provide courteous assistance to all faculty, staff, students and visitors, avoiding confrontational behavior, and remaining composed at all times in stressful situations.

Decision Making: Consequence of error is greatest in making decisions concerning vehicular/pedestrian interactions. Must be able to make accurate decisions promptly. Adverse weather conditions sometimes cause the need for exceptions to standard operating procedures, and officers must decide when to make those exceptions. Ability to work INDEPENDENTLY is a must for this position, as employee will frequently be on the job when no supervisor is on duty.

Security, Patroll, Enforcement: Monitor all campus parking facilities, issuing citations on vehicles not parked in compliance with regulations. Also patrol parking areas to document the condition of overhead lighting, and pavement conditions, providing timely reports to management of needed maintenance and improvements. Also patrol the Rivers Street Parking Deck in order to remove surface debris, as well as check for other problems such as graffiti and malfunctioning elevators/stairwell doors.
Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
