General Information:

The Assistant Director of Community Health Education serves on the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS) Leadership Team, oversees community health programs (SexEdVA, the Waynesboro Promotores de Salud program, and the CHW Training and TA Center), and leads the growth of community health programming into the future. For IIHHS, community health includes the full social determinants of health, not only disease prevention and medical care linkage. One specific area of growth includes growing the Community Health Worker Training and Technical Assistance Program that helps to build the capacity among members of our immigrant and other underserved communities for health-related fields in Harrisonburg and the surrounding counties.

IIHHS is seeking a creative, self-starting team member, who is effective working alone and as part of a team. The Assistant Director ensures that all fiscal and personnel functions of the department operate at optimum efficiency, that grant funding supports program operations, and that deliverables stay on schedule and within budget. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of IIHHS and provides fiscal and administrative support for areas and positions within the department.

This is not a remote/telework position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Daily, weekly, and/or monthly duties include:
- Be a collaborative leader for IIHHS and the Community Health Education initiatives.
- Provide management, oversight, and supervision for several grant-funded projects including SexEdVA (PREP and SRAE), the Waynesboro Promotores de Salud Program, and the Community Health Worker (CHW) Training and Technical Assistance Program.
- Manage all aspects of the sale, promotion, training, and continued research of the Vision of You program.
- Manage all aspects of the promotion, recruitment, and quality assurance of the Community Health Worker Training program.
- Establish an apprenticeship program as part of the Community Health Worker Training, and develop best practice models and supports for those employing CHWs.
- Participate in finding and writing grants to support objectives of Community Health Education department. This includes responsibility for grant writing and implementation.
- Support the implementation of the Youth Data Survey.
- Manage all fiscal, personnel, and administrative duties for the department. Monitor budgets for active grant projects. Manage operational accounts and update IIHHS leadership about available funds.
- Communicate with the Office of Sponsored Programs and prepare budget-related forms and budget requests. Track expenditures to ensure spending is within budget.
- Coordinate purchasing. Creates, submits, and tracks financial transactions.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with IIHHS leadership team and serve on at least one committee advancing IIHHS initiatives.
- Serve as PI on the Community Health Education grants, and provide oversight for all grants, including grants management, compliance, report writing, program planning, implementation, sustainability planning, and program evaluation.
- Collaborate with academic programs to develop pathways for JMU faculty and student involvement in IIHHS Community Health Education programs.
- Promote a culture of belonging for all members of the workplace community.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have:
- A record of outstanding leadership, creative vision, and budget management.
- Experience leading and administering grant-funded projects.
- Grant writing experience.
- Experience building and maintaining professional relationships with grant partners and funding agencies.
- A commitment to sustaining and growing community health initiatives.
- The ability to learn new systems and processes.
- Experience addressing the social determinants of health and health disparities.
- Show a willingness to learn and accept new responsibilities in service of IIHHS, CHBS, and the University.
- Knowledge of fiscal management with an understanding of accounting procedures.
- The ability to organize and analyze data, compose correspondence, and prepare reports independently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to communicate with a high level of professionalism with both internal and external stakeholders.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.
