POSITION SUMMARY: Dock mastermanages the routine logistics and operations at shipyard with responsibilities that include cleaning, fueling, and storing boats, helping boaters dock and undock, and enforcing marina rules to ensure safety. As a dock master, you help to ensure that boats arrive and depart successfully. You also make sure that issues related to the dock are appropriately handled and that boat repairs are completed on time. JOB SCOPE: The role operates within established guidelines, but must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. He/she has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of dry dock assets. Failure to meet the expectations of the job could result in capital asset failure and the resulting loss of production and profit. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The role supervises up to 100 hourly craft employees providing general to specific direction as required for dry-docking evolutions or projects assigned. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The individual Interacts with various levels in the company and customers. When docking activities are taking place, this position serves as an internal expert and the activity supervisor with those assigned to assist with docking of vessels. In some instances may exercise position authority regarding issues of safety, technical errors and/or legal risk. The Dock Master also has regular contact with NAVSEA staff and engineers involved with dry dock certification. There is little interaction with vendors and subcontractors expect for those that provide tugboat and diving services. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The individual will be in production areas of the yard and onboard ships.Must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights.The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
