Instructional responsibilities for the Teaching Faculty I include: - Teaching two sections of Life Sciences Communications (LSC) 212: Introduction to Scientific Writing - Teaching one section of (LSC) 560: Scientific Writing - Teaching one section of (LSC) 561: Scientific Writing for the public
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering lectures on scientific writing, holding weekly office hours, maintaining class websites, evaluating and grading student work and projects, and participating in departmental activities.
LSC 212: Writing effective science digests, proposals, newsletters, and trade magazine articles for agriculture, natural resources, health and science-related topics - meets Communication B requirements
LSC 560: Communication of scientific information to other scientists through technical writing (writing for publications; grant writing etc.) - open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students - to meet Communication B requirements
LSC 561: Communication of scientific information to the public - Focuses on science writing concepts and techniques that can be used to communicate purposefully and effectively with public audiences about science, research, and technology - open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students-meets Comm B requirement
Responsibilities:
Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
- 5% Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
- 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
- 5% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
- 80% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
- 5% Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed

Education:
Required Master's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related discipline
Preferred PhD in Social Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences, or Biological Sciences
Qualifications:
Required: - Five years of experience writing and editing on science-related topics to broad, non-scientific audiences for publications such as newsletters and trade magazine articles - Demonstrated ability to effectively teach complex scientific material using easy-to-understand terminology and language
Preferred: - Previous teaching experience or transferable skills with motivation to excel in higher education

Minimum $56,000 ACADEMIC (9 months) Depending on Qualifications Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
