Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for a Chemist to support our Beaumont facility. At Arkema, Chemists are responsible for providing support to operations and shipping to resolve, improve, test, and enhance the products in an environmentally sound, responsible, and safe sound manner in compliance with all Arkema, Inc. site requirements. The Chemist will manage multiple projects utilizing technical expertise for the Beaumont plant. This position reports directly to the Continuous Improvement Leader. This position has no direct reports. This position is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Provide analytical data to plant personnel, corporate personnel, and external customers so that each can make accurate decisions.
- Develop and maintain SQC charts, spreadsheets, and analytical results.
- Ensure that shipments released are on-spec.
- Determine acceptable variability factors for analyses.
- Compile analyses and produce statistical data for customer or plant specification changes.
- Assume ownership of program and maintenance of software applications specific to instruments and data application by being a software administrator (LIMS & Compass CDS).
- Leads troubleshooting efforts.
- Calibrate and repair instrumentation.
- Ensure adequate equipment/supplies are maintained to assure smooth operation of laboratory.
- Effectively maintain and establish improved methodologies for wet chemistry, GC, IC, and TOC.
- Review, revise, and develop standard lab procedures for analyses and instrument calibrations.
- Assume responsibilities of QC Manager in his/her absence;may occasionally perform duties of Lab Technicians as needed / requested.
- Maintain water operator license.
- HSE responsibilities include but are not restricted to those outlined in Leadership expectations such as reporting any incident in a timely manner.
- Promote safe operations by following OSHA guidelines and using SDS.
- Utilize budgeted funds ethically and responsibly.
- Inform, educate, and train personnel on new or recent changes to analytical procedures and test methods.
- Manage, plan, and implement special projects as required; act as technical interface between lab manager and lab technicians while implementing projects.
- As a subject matter expert, provide consult to less experienced Chemist.
- Perform duties following ISO 9001 & ISO 14001.
- Follow EPA and TCEQ requirements and guidelines.
- Follow in house methodology guidelines as applicable and acceptable laboratory techniques and practices.
- Follow ASTM guidelines as applicable and acceptable laboratory techniques and practices.
- Follow OSHA regulations and guidelines concerning laboratory practices and general plant safety.
- Follow the company's Code of Conduct policy.
- Provide technical support and develop short and long-range objectives/projects for the areas responsible. Execute the objectives/projects in a strong team environment.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident, or injury incidents
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc.(e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
To be considered for this role, the following is required:
- This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree, Chemistry degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience performing analytical testing in a laboratory setting. Gas chromatography experience required.
