Overview |
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Farm Supervisor II for the Animal Care Program, Department of Animal Science within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position is responsible for performing duties necessary to maintain the farm.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Oversees maintenance of the animal farm on Cook Campus.
- Operates farm equipment for pasture maintenance, general farm repairs, equipment maintenance, repairs to animal housing and care equipment, and fence repairs on the NJAES/SEBS farm.
- Supervises other employees (Local 888) in the Farm Shop Unit of the Animal Care Program.
- Requires teamwork between Farm Shop Unit employees and the Animal Unit employees to accomplish the tasks necessary to maintain the Farm.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a farm environment.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Must have or be willing to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
- Requires a valid driver's license and two years driving experience.
- Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated experience with the establishment and maintenance of field experiments.
- Must have mechanical skills sufficient to perform general maintenance and repairs on vehicles, livestock equipment and farm equipment.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge and experience working with all agricultural animals including, cattle, chickens, goats, horses, sheep, and swine is preferred.

Equipment Utilized |
- Equipment required to operate includes skid steer loader and implements (ie. fence post pounder), farm tractor, planters, manure spreader, brush hog, chain saw, chisel plow, snowplow, livestock trailer, welder, basic carpentry tools, and other miscellaneous farm equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- The work environment is a 125-acre livestock farm.
- The physical demands and work environment are working primarily outdoors, including in inclement weather.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
