Position Summary:
We are currently seeking an experienced Civil / Structural Engineer 5 to support the design team as a lead design engineer on projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing plans and specifications following applicable standards and should have an excellent understanding of the design process and the ability to mentor other engineers. Assignments typically include a combination of on-site and office duties for various projects, including:
- Highway/transportation
- Structural
- Drainage
- Site development
- Other public works improvements
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team. Duties will also include communication and coordination with other engineering disciplines, company divisions, and consultants, as needed.

Responsibilities/Duties (may include, but are not limited to):
- Perform field investigations and assessments
- Conduct standard computations or analysis
- Prepare drawings and visual aids
- Perform occasional drafting and figure development using technical software
- Apply prescribed techniques and procedures per established criteria
- Perform civil/structural design for engineering projects and review the work of other design staff
- Mentor and train junior engineering staff
- Prepare or modify reports, specifications, plans, forms, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Education and Experience Required:
Level 5 Requirements:
- Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited institution
- 15 years of relevant experience (or 13 with a master's degree, or 11 with a Ph.D.)
- Preferred experience in construction plan production, design calculations, project plan development, and technical writing
- PE license preferred (or eligibility for licensure within 1 year)
Professional Impact:
- Represents the organization as the primary technical contact on contracts and projects
- Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters requiring cross-organization coordination
- Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a leadership role
- Erroneous decisions or recommendations could significantly impact organizational objectives
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based with occasional field work
- Anticipated minor hazards typical of office and New Mexico field data collection environments
- Requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity to meet discipline requirements
Safety, Security, and Quality:
The Civil/Structural Engineer 5 will:
- Ensure all tasks are executed safely and deliberately
- Protect the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
- Maintain required safety, security, and operational training
- Assure procedural and regulatory compliance
- Stop work if continuing would compromise safety or security
- Must be able to obtain an L-level Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance
