Job Summary

Supervises operations of Adult Cell Therapy lab. Has Clinical Lab Scientists, Hospital Lab Technicians, and may have Lab Processing Supervisor 1 as direct reports. Provides effective and efficient supervision of daily operations and appropriate response to patient needs for the Adult Cell Therapy Lab services. This includes writing/revising of procedures, staff assignments, patient procedure approvals, project management , process improvement activities, and other duties as assigned. Oversees the onboarding of new Immune Effector Cell Therapy products. Assist with QA/Compliance activities, including preparing for inspections and compiling data.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $121,700 - $190,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Adult Cell Therapy Laboratory (ACTL) serves the needs of adult patients cared for by the UCSF Hematologic Blood and Cellular Therapies (HBC) Program, Cancer Immuno Therapy Program (CIP), and Heme Research Program. Additionally, the ACTL serves the needs of any other department using cell therapy products like the Cardiac Pulmonary department, HIV department, Solid Organ Transplant department, Neuro Onc department, etc.
The ACTL processes over 400 cellular therapy products to include Peripheral Blood Stem Cells, Bone Marrow cells, and Immune Effector Cells (IEC) collections each year for immediate use, and offers long-term cell storage in liquid nitrogen.
ACTL activities are performed within the current Good Tissue Practice (cGTP) guidelines of the state and federal government, and within professional society guidelines. The ACTL follows the regulations of FDA, CAP, CLIA and state of California. ACTL complies with the professional guidelines of FACT, NMDP, ICCBBA, and all commercial/research IEC companies.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS with a major in a related field and 3 years of experience in administrative analysis, operations research, high-level administrative role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge in the field of cellular therapy
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory processing concepts, procedures, processes, and equipment
  • Ability to lead and mentor staff and organize operations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to evaluate issues and identify solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Strong customer services skills

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of relevant industry, health and safety, federal, and state regulations
  • Knowledge of human resources management practices and policies
  • Skills using laboratory information system and business software
  • Skill performing data checks using queries
