Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.
In this role, the successful candidate 10 to12 weeks, full-time work experience. It provides students with an opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in health services administration/management, research, or, policy. Students gain a better appreciation for the pressures that affect decision-making in todays healthcare environment and are able to identify additional skills they will need to better prepare them for a rewarding career in health care administration.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with providing constructive feedback, and developing training tools and policy and procedures.
- Ensure cash optimization and accounts receivable reduction activity is functioning to fullest capability.
- Reports any discrepancies or inconsistencies in data and/or reports to management timely.
- Adhere to compliance and departmental policies and procedures including compliance with 100% of HIPAA requirements, required.
- Work independently, take initiative, and think critically.
- Work collaboratively with a variety of departments within NYULMC and NYULMC's contracted payers.
- Evaluate and escalate eligibility, authorization, billing, and claims processing inaccuracies to implement upstream solutions.
- Maintain data integrity when manipulating data files for purposes of analysis to ensure data does not become corrupted through conscientious use of tools and a system of checks and balances.
- Execute data mining and in-depth accounts receivable analysis.
- Collect/analyze data to determine areas for operational improvement throughout the revenue cycle.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
As a pre-med student interning in a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) clinic or department, your duties can vary depending on the setting (private clinic vs academic hospital) and the level of responsibility youre given. That said, here are some common intern duties in REI:
Clinical Shadowing & Support
Shadowing REI specialists during patient consultations, procedures (like IUI, IVF, egg retrievals), and surgeries (laparoscopies, hysteroscopies).
Observing ultrasounds, hormone assessments, and follicular monitoring.
Attending multidisciplinary meetings with embryologists, nurses, and counselors.
Patient Interaction (if permitted)
Assisting with patient intake, history-taking, and gathering basic information under supervision.
Helping guide patients through the clinic workflow (scheduling, consent forms, prepping for procedures).
Supporting patient educationhanding out materials or explaining basic fertility procedures with supervision.
Lab Exposure
Observing procedures in the embryology lab or andrology lab (e.g., semen analysis, embryo freezing).
Learning about specimen handling, cryopreservation, and fertilization techniques (though hands-on roles are usually limited due to regulations).
Administrative Tasks
Charting, organizing electronic health records (EHR), or entering patient data.
Preparing case reports or presentations on specific diagnoses (e.g., PCOS, endometriosis, male factor infertility).
Assisting with research data entry, literature reviews, or grant preparation if the clinic is academic.
Research Opportunities
Collaborating with faculty on clinical research (e.g., IVF success rates, hormone therapies).
Helping with IRB paperwork, survey creation, or data analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a The student intern must be a full-time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.50 - $20.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
